According to my billing from Verizon, accessing voicemail may have changed how I'll be billed.

Unless I'm wrong, it seems like they're purposely making it harder to save a few pennies here and there. Now I have to set up a speed dial for the voicemail. No more one-touch voicemail I guess.

Here's the announcement:

ATTN: VOICE MAIL USERS
EFFECTIVE 5/16/03, ALL CALLS FROM YOUR WIRELESS PHONE TO *86 FOR VOICE MAIL RETRIEVAL WILL BE BILLED AT THE STANDARD AIRTIME RATE DETERMINED BY YOUR CALLING PLAN. PREVIOUSLY, IF YOU TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE MOBILE TO MOBILE BENEFIT, YOUR CALLS TO *86 WERE SUBTRACTED FROM YOUR MOBILE TO MOBILE ALLOWANCE.

IF YOU ACCESS YOUR VOICE MAILBOX BY DIALING YOUR 10-DIGIT WIRELESS NUMBER, THE CALL WILL STILL BE CLASSIFIED AS MOBILE TO MOBILE. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE.

so just change the Vmail access number from *86 to your wireless number and this will not effect you.

I dial my own number to check voicemail and it was showing up on my bill as "Voice Mail" and it appears to come out of my regular minutes. I'll have to see if it changes in the next billing period.
