I cut some of the plastic covering the Green (send), Red (end), CLR and Speaker keys from a Verizon-ordered 7135 case (that isn't perfectly designed, as it has the LCD facing the wrong way when its on your belt) and it still holds fine... the plastic still covers the number keys.
The Verizon case and the inversion of the LCD was the subject of another thread... http://www.smartphonesource.com/vbul...ght=invert+lcd and contrary to what somebody said there, MY leather case does (unfortunately) invert the LCD.
Excellent point I never thought of by Coolcat about being in silent mode. I can feel the vibrations just fine in the holster.
How about all you pouch users? Can you feel the phone vibrate in the pouch? It seems to me if the phone is too far away from your body then you lose that functionality!
Also has anyone noticed that the holster was designed with a hole over the speaker so that you can hear it ring when the phone is in the holser and placed on a table. But when the phone is on your hip the speaker is muffled because the speaker is facing your body!
I think this is a major design flaw of the phone. Putting the phone in backwards may keep the front of the phone from being scratched up but if you can't hear it ringing then what's the point!
I have to second mjaffe's assertion earlier in this thread. A friend carries a Treo in this < http://www.handspring.com/products/P...002&cat=230003 > case so I asked him to let me see how it fits my 7135. The answer is very well. Nice sturdy construction, and the strap in the back is adjustable so it can be tightened to fit very close to the body. I thought that the case would muffle the ringer substantially, but I have not found that to be a real problem in actual use. The only disadvantage that I have found is that the caller ID screen is partially obscured by the flap (only the battery meter is visible when the flap is closed). I tried the Kyocera leather pouch, but in my opinion this is far superior. Picked one up for $25 at Staples.
Well I thought I would tell you guys my experience and why I have a pouch on the way. It started last week when I got out of my car and the phone came out of the holster and hit the ground. It put a few smaill nicks in the case of the phone. I was mad but thought I had not put the phone in completely after a call in the car. Well guess what it happened two more times and now my phone has a couple of nice dents in the metal on the front and a few very deep nicks in the plastic due to falling on some small gravel. The last time it fell I figured out what was happening. I keep the phone turned with the antenna turned toward the front side. What was happening is it was getting caught on my seatbelt and was getting popped out of the holster as I got out of the car. I am not a bit happy as my phone is just a month old and now has a lot of cosmetic damage. I thought about what I could do to get a new one but decided that the phone still works great and this will probably not be the last time something happens to it especially with boating season coming up. So I decided to get the pouch as I dropped the 6035 a couple of times in the pouch and it looked as good the day I sold it as it did the day I bought it. Just my two cents worth.
Does anybody have any close-up pictures of the 7135 in the pouch vs. in the case?
Actually, just the pouch would be fine. The case seems to be similar to the old leather case I had on a StarTac, so I'm familiar with it.
But it's unclear to me how the pouch functions. Does it stay on the phone while you're using it, like the case? Or do you have to remove the phone from the pouch to answer it?
For me, the holster is convenient. Yes, I've dropped the phone out of it once and dropped the entire unit (phone in holster) once. Yes, I've got a battle scar on the antenna to prove it. But you know what? That's going to happen once in a while. What I'm most worried about is dropping this baby with the flip open --- that could be disastrous. With the flip closed, it is like a Sherman Tank.
slorandy,
First I tried my local Verizon store and they could not even order it. Then I was going to wait on Dan to get them but I could not wait anymore so I ordered it from Kyocera. Since I was a new customer I got a 15% discount. It should be here sometime this week. I think Dan is close to getting them so if you can wait he is the best. I bought all my other stuff from him.
Barnstormer: The phone hast to come out of the pouch for you to answer the phone.
I don't have one but I know it has a LED hole at the top of the pouch for you to see the caller ID. And the flap has a velcro attachment.
I don't know if it has a hole where the speaker is so you can hear the phone ring. Or when the phone is in vibrate mode if you can feel the vibrations very well.
Can someone with a pouch tell us about your experience when answering a call?
I've got the pouch and have loved it. I can't speah too much on how loud the ring is as I almost exclusively use the vibrate function. I just find the ring in nearly all situations to be rude. That said, it does have a series of small holes for the speaker but it is the side against your hip so it gets somewhat muffled. The volume is also dependent upon the volume of the ringer you are using ... not just the setting of the phone. In a crowded room with background noise you probably won't hear it. The vibrate works very well for me. YOu have to be sensitive to it though. One could mistake it for one's stomach growling. But I'm not aware of missing any phone calls because the vibrate was too subtle. I also added a velcro stap to the clip so that onec it is on my belt I also velcro the clip shut. I found it was falling off as I climbed in anf out of my car. I'm a man of average height and build so it's not like there is that much of me to push the phone off my belt but it was and so I came up with the velcro strap. Hope that helps!
FatherFrog: Does the pouch have holes on the side to reach the volume controls while the phone is in the pouch? Just in case the phone was ringing and you wanted to turn the phone to silent mode without taking it out of the pouch.
There is a piece of clear thin plastic on the side so that you can touch the volume buttons. Actually, I hadn't thought of using it for that but you most certainly could. The other thing I didn't mention is that, yes, there is a nice hole on top so that you can see the caller id. The pouch is designed so that you have to put it in so that the antenna is away from your hip (I guess less a chance of causing you cancer) and also so that the caller id is right side up as you look down to your belt.
once you have used a clip that has a good sturdy locking swivel clip it is hard to go back to a solution that doesnt provide this feature(no matter how nice the cae/pouch may be).thus i dont believe the case or pouch would suit me(i use the holster).what i would truly like to see is a slim formfitting case/cover that is integrated with the holster.or something along the lines of the eb slipper cases.i cant have that ugly plastic covering the keyboard and i dont like the belt clip (2 piece) solution either.need something slim and sleek.maybe something by bodyglove.
I just purchased a 15GB iPod for my wife, and in the process of configuration and the initial mp3 sync I grabbed the case to see how the 7135 fits. PERFECT!!
The side buttons are covered but easy to use through the stretch nylon sides. I like that for meetings and lunches I can mute my phone without having to remove the phone.
I continue to use and enjoy the black plastic holster that came with the 7135, but thought I'd toss this into the ring for debate and or to solve someones problem with a usable case for the 7135.
I really like the holster. After reading so much about people having accidental droppings, I developed a cheap solution.
Use a large rubberband (or long black hair tie) and loop on end around the back of the clip. Then, with the phone in the holster, loop the other end around the bottom of the holster and hook it on the the release tab. It really locks the phone in and is still very easy to take out and replace.
I even went so far as to use a dremel to cut to small slits near the bottom of the holster and thread the hair tie thru to keep it straight in the middle of the phone.
This has worked great for me. The only problem I had was when my wife found out I stole her hair tie (I guess the long ones are rare). Anyway, I took a beating but the phone stayed in the holster.
So is the complaint with the holster that the phone and holster tend to fall or does the phone come out of the holster and fall to the ground?
I bought the pouch. It works OK. I don't like the swivel clip on it, and wish the pouch had a magnetic snap instead of velcro. But the phone is protected when in the pouch. I tend to attach the belt clip upside down (a tip I read here) and it is more comfortable.
I was thinking of picking up the leather case to give it a try.
I might even start using the holster since I have added insurance to my phone. The Holster and Leathe case seem to be the "quickest" ways to answer the phone. The pouch is a little slow.... Open the pouch, pull out the phone, and then open flip to answer. Opening the velcro pouch is pretty loud as well.
I use a small fanny pack and because of this I can accomodate the leather case with the clip button removed. It is always dry and is either zipped securely in or not. The vibration can usually be sensed through the pack too. The first day I had the holster it fell hard to the ground. I never carried the leather case on the belt, it seems to be a setup as erratic as I move around..
The case I've been using is the Brookstone discussed previously in this post. Because the cutout for the antenna requires the phone to be in backwards, I just cut the flap off and it's perfect! It's has a integrated leather covered belt clip which fits very close to the body and makes feeling the vibrate easy.

Don't buy the Kyocera leather case. This one is much better, and you can customize it with/without a flap or the type of belt loop / clip, as well as choose other colours.
