For 18 months or so, I have enjoyed my 6035 phone on Verizon in Southern Cal. I received a recent gift of a Creative Nomad Muvo MP3 player. Now that I'm hooked on MP3's, I have my sights set on the 7135 - the Nomad will go to my boys. So here are some questions:
Has anyone compared MP3 playback sound quality to a good dedicated MP3 player?
Will standard headphones/ cassette adaptors, etc work on the 7135 headset jack?
What is the quality of the Kyo stereo headphone?
Thanks in advance for responding to my first post on this board,

Seth,
Welcome to the board and to the wonderful world of Mp3s!
Unfortunately, no, the standard headphones/cassette adaptors, etc. WON'T work on the 7135 headset jack.
Until one of us custom makes one, only the $39 (ouch!) official Kyo "Stereo Headset" earbuds will do. But hell, I bought 'em. (But then I buy everything. )
But I can't wait until someone in this forum makes and sells custom made adaptors. I will gladly pay.

Of course this is what the phone is SUPPOSED to do. I just want to hear someone confirm that this aspect of the phone works as advertised. Thanks.
HotSynch has already confirmed this several times. Most recently in the MP3 FAQ.
I just received Kyocera Stereo Headset in the mail today and the sound quality is impressive. After adjusting the sound properties in the MP3 player I am vary satisfied.
The only thing that concerns me is when I use the headset while talking on the phone. When I'm not listening to mp3's I don't want to have two ear buds in my ears when only one works when using the telephone. Allowing the other bud to hang while on the phone would bug me to no end. The good thing is, I don't use headsets too much when talking on the phone...I use the speakerphone.

So the stereo headphones don't give you stereo sound for phone calls? Thats a little stinky. Which side does the call play through? (I'm gonna guess left)
There is a built-in mic on the cord for the earbuds, right? Does it have a clip to keep it under control?
I know what you mean about letting one bud hang, I typically have to do this while filming weddings. I've usually got a dress shirt on for those occassions though, so I just tuck the dangler into the pocket so it isn't swinging around and tugging on the other one.

My guess is the phone plays in either ear... DEPENDING ON WHICH EAR YOU HAVE IT IN!
I remember reading somewhere (on the Kyo accessories page I think) that phone calls are in one ear only for "safety" reasons so people don't wear both ear buds when driving (illegal in several states).
I have used a few types of normal stereo headsets which have a lilttle volume control and a mono-stereo switch on them.. using a switch like that wouldn't take more than 15 minutes with a solder iron and some blacktape to fix that "safety problem".
Probably be more convienent to create the adapter to split the standard 7135 4prong into two three-prongs, one 2.5 for a standard cellphone headset and the other 3.5 (1/ for a standard stereo headseat (in this case one with a mono-stereo switch) or for use with car adaptors or 1/8 to rca adapters.
Well I guess I'll be the bad guy and admit that I'm unimpressed with the sound quality from the stereo headphones. I'll admit I've never been a fan of earbuds for listening to music and the utter lack of bass response is likely a result of the size of the buds and the fact that they're made my Kyocera and not a company (Sony, maybe?) that has experience manufacturing headphones. Overall, the sound is good, but not great... bass has no 'thump'. I'm sure something will come out, third-party, that will give us better sound quality.

jazmaan, I have converted two cd's (about 100 mb) into mp3's and used both the kyo MP3 and cruzer to send them to my sd card (I have a 256). With the kyo mp3 it took bout 2 1/2 hours for 50 mb and w cruzer it took 2 minutes!! Anyway to your point I have done it and am listening to them as I write this. The only glitch's I have found are:
1) you can not arrange them by folders by say artist or cd, they are all together
2) when I arrange them PF1 through 12 then Incubus 1-13 for example, for some reason they do not show up that way in my playlist.

That's not a fair criticism of the MP3 player to say the earbuds don't have enough bass. I'm sure if you plugged those same earbuds into any other kind of Walkman, you wouldn't get any better bass either (unless the Walkman had some kind of bass boost, which I generally am not a fan of anyway.) The answer is simply to use your own high quality headphones or a set of speakers. As of yet, nobody seems to have gone the extra mile to construct their own adapter, but I'm sure someone will. The question is whether anybody will sell them, or will we all have to build our own adapters from Radio Shack parts?
The inablility to produce a "thump" is due to the small size of earbuds, any earbuds. It is not Kyocera's fault. Just enjoy the 7135, it is simply the best phone/pda combo available today.
I'm afraid that I'm of the Geeky sort that has a basement full of catalogs for all of the "parts" kind of things. I have been on the lookout for the 4 conductor plug that we can adapt to the phone and will give out the source when I find it.
Once found, we could go all the way up to a set of Koss PRO 4/AAA and add boom mike and have all the base one could want. I suppose we could add a backpack with battery and amp, maybe some strobes and such, and do impromtu street corner partys.

Hey Jazmann, I'll make 'em and sell 'em to everybody!
I don't have a 7135 yet, but once I get my hands on one (and probably one of the Kyo headsets too) then I can figure out the best way to do it and let you know how much, and where to send the money!
Anyone who's interested, PM me.

Sorry, but I no longer make 7135 headset adapters.
I was thinking that a really cool adaptor would take the 4 wire plug and split the output to a 3 way jack for stereo headphones and another 3 way for a standard microphone/headset.
A simpler design would simply take the left/right/ground leads from a 4 way plug to a 3 way jack for headphones or cassette adaptors.
