I am trying to create custom ringers. I use the MP3 Maker and it makes a PDB file then when I sync the palm desktop says invalid palm file when I try to sync it--
What am I doing wrong? Has anyone else been able to successfully make MP3 Ringers?
Sorry to hear about your difficulty in uploading MP3's to the phone. I hope you can get them installed and provide some feedback on ringer quality...
Cloudyl and any other early adopters,
Just curious, what is your impression of the MP3 editing software that comes with the 7135? Does it allow you to modify an existing MP3 (a song for example) by cutting a part out of the original music track to use as a ringer? Can you change bitrates? Also, is there a limit on how long can an MP3 ringer can be (before a call goes to voicemail)? If voicemail is deactivated will the phone continue playing the ringer MP3 until the caller hangs up?
Does anyone know of good MP3 editing software from a third party that could be used to make the mods to MP3 files as mentioned above?

After you sync the ringer into the phone, you need to soft reset the unit - then it appears in the drop-down selection list for the ringers.
I have not had any luck with the custom ringers. I just tried a couple of different files, created with the kyocera software and the same file error appears in the synch log.

Okay--I was able to get 1 ringer to work--now if I can just figure out how I got that one over there---

...I need to do another FAQ.....you guys are playing to fast.
Please do---I have tried renaming the file and I still get invalid Palm Database file---
What am I doing wrong--I was able to get one onto the palm but don't know what I did different that time.
Attached is an mp3 created from the beginning of Pink Floyd's Time. It has been edited down to a length and bitrate which I believe should be suitable for a 7135 ringtone or alarm tone. Can someone please give it a test run and let me know what you think? THANKS.
Hal - The 7135 does not come with MP3 editing software.
Ringer length is limited by file size, Kyocera recommends editing songs into 30 to 100 k files.
All - I too would like to learn about MP3 editing tools.
I managed to get ONE new ringer into the phone, found the quality of the original MP3 makes a big difference once turned into a ringer, my "foxy lady" ringer was just barely audible a the highest ringer volume. I do not know how I managed to get it into the phone, some combination of short file name and a soft reset - it only worked once, I have deleted the file and am starting over today.
I have e mailed kyocera about this, will post their response.

Works like a charm jazzmaan thanks from a HUGE PF fan! I simply saved your mp3 file to my deskyop then clicked on the Kyocera MP3 Ringer Maker that I installed from the Kyo CD. The Kyo software converted the mp3 to a pdb file then I did a hot synch. After that you do a soft reset and the ringer is at the bottom of the list (the Kyo defaults are in alphabetical). The nice thing about the Kyo MP3 Ringer Maker software is that you can convert a MP# into not only a ringer but: system, demo, tone, wild, other, alarm, flip, or speech as well! I hope you dont mind jazz but I took the liberty of posting the pdb file in the filez section.
Thanks boinker. That mp3 was just a stab in the dark. I could easily make it
(1) Louder
(2) Longer (The entire chime sequence of the song is 40 seconds with a repeated gong and heartbeat before the first chord plays!)
(3) Higher bitrate (right now its at the same 32kbps mono rate I use for internet 56k modem streams)

NP,
1) its as loud as any of the ringers, I tried a few and at diff vol levels so I think you nailed that
2) It would be pretty slick to hear the gong and heartbeat!
3) Excuse my ignorance (Im a tech junky but tech idiot!) but I am not sure the affect of the bitrate (e.g. more is good or bad)?
Anyway thanks again, burned up another battery playing this am watching the kids in the snow!
