Verizon Phone Protection Plan and someone lost 7135
I went to the Verizon store today in Columbus, Ohio to ask if I could buy a non-branded cell phone and have the Verizon phone protection insurance cover it as long as its the active phone on my account. He asked what phone and I told him the Kyocera 7135 and he said probably not because Verizon didnt offer that for the 6035. Did Verizon even sell the 6035? Or did they sell it and not offer phone protection plan for it like they do other phones? Anyone here know? (I didnt think to ask till I left the store).
Also, there was a Kyocera 7135 laying on the Customer Service counter. I picked it up and was about to open it (thinking its a demo model) when I saw under it was a drivers license and a business card. I looked around and no-one was coming at me for the tackle and no-one was even looking at me. I layed it back down, still no-one came. I asked the customer service person about it, he looked around puzzled and then he said, oh that customer must've left it here. I'm just thinking, WOW.
I didn't get to look at the phone, but initial observations is that it looked blockish and bigger then I expected (I currently have a Motorola Startac 7868W.
I was lucky enough to be one of the early adopters of the 6035 from Verizon. I DID purchase the phone protection plan. Since it was available and the phone was SO EXPENSIVE. It was a no-brainer to purchase the protection plan.
Funny thing though. My first phone... Kept shutting off. Wouldn't stay on. Would shut itself off anywhere from 3 seconds to 3 hours later. Took it in and demonstrated the problem. They said "just a minute" went into the back, got a new one, synced my data and reprogramed the new phone to work with my number and off I went. No talk about insurance or anything. Then about 7 months later my phone failed one of my "random drop tests", the microphone quit working. Took it in and asked about it and same deal. Here you go. Here is a brand new phone. Thank you for shopping at Verizon... No mention of the insurance. Sooo, even though I have insurance. Havn't used it.
I had a similar experience with my motorola startac. The earphone died, so people could hear me talking, but I couldnt hear them (versus your microphone dying). I took it in and was told I could get a refurb replacement for free, with no talk of insurance or anything. But I was then told that they didnt have any refurbs and I'd have to go to another store and get my replacement (which I did).
Consider, they dont even sell the phone yet. Now I break the phone or I _lose_ it, just two days after they start selling it (or worse in our situation (today) before they start selling it). Is it likely they'll replace it for free?
I'm strongly considering buying the kyocera 7135 without concern over the insurance, considering our past experiences. Still, atleast for me, its not as clear cut as your 'nuff said' would imply.
Alltel isn't even offering insurance via Assurion. I got a printout of the cost associated with replacing the various parts. $25 bench fee if nothing is found wrong with it. Yikes I feel unprotected.
I was able to get the Insurance (with Verizon) for the 6035 and even had to use it to get a replacement. $50.00 deductable is better than $500 for the phone.

I've had the 6035 for almost two years with Verizon. I've had the handset replacement ins the entire time. I'm on my third 6035 courtesy of Verizon ins. .... the first two broke, and I lost one. I paid the $50.00 deductable and that was it. Are you hearing that ins will not be offered on th 7135?
Yep, OBVIOUSLY Verizon did sell the 6035 and almost all of us bought the insurance. I'm sure the big V will have ins available for the 7135. If not, we could always check with our own insurance agents.

Just a quick bit of info. Verizon WILL NOT offer insurance on the 7135 as they do not cover Thera. If your sales person adds insurance to your account, be sure to have them double check. I work for the company and I know that they do not offer if for Thera and will not offer it for the 7135 either. Bummer.
I didn't buy phone insurance until one day several years ago when I took my kids fishing at a trout farm. I had my uninsured cellphone clipped to my belt when I fell off the pier into the lake!

Then again, that was probably because the stupid, worthless Thera-flu originally cost $800, whereas the 7135 will most likely be $499... which is exactly what the heavily insured 6035 cost at launch.
Any other Verizon reps claiming that the 7135 WON'T be insured?

if your sales person adds insurance to your account, and you pay it...
that's a contract in most all states.
they WILL have to honor it legally.

First off, Verizon will have to communicate to all sales people that insurance is not available for the 7135. If a sales person does not know the correct info and adds insurance to the account and a claim is required, I would assume that Verizon would blame the sales rep and credit your account for the past months of insurance premiums. This is from my experience with the company.

And if that refund did not equal the cost of replacing my phone, Verizon's attorney's would find themselves in small claims court for breach of contract defending a case they have no chance of winning.
I know that Alltel will not insure and I'm willing to bet that Verizon will not. I did read in a previous post that you can get personal items coverage with state farm for like $2.99 a month.

Heading to see my State Farm Agent sometime this afternoon.
More later...
