If anything happens to my 7135, this will be put to the test.
When I activated my phone and changed voice plans yesterday, the rep asked if I wanted insurance. I said "Are you SURE you can offer it on this phone? becuase I heard you can't, I didn't buy it from Verizon, and I don't want any hassles if I need to file a claim". She said "I am positive I can insure any phone which is activated on my network".
Veriz-atel, or All-izon what ever you want to call the siblings, do use the same insurance company, among many, many other things... Man, I do not know why they don't come out and admit that the purchase has already happened.
Anyway, I had a 6035 on Alltel, was told by the sales rep that they did not insure. I did not believe them and called asurion. The person who answers the phones does so for both verizon and alltel. They just look at what line is ringing. She told me that Alltel chose not to pay to have the 6035 insured, but Verizon did. She delt with replacing them all the time. I sure hope this is the case now with the 7135, as I am no longer with the smaller acquiriee.
OK, I just got off the phone with Asurion. The person seemed really confused. She was asking why I would want to insure the 7135 on Verizon if I can't even use it on Verizon yet, because Verizon hasn't approved it. I told her that beta testers use it on Verizon and that the local Verizon store told me they would activate the phone for me even though they dont sell it yet. She was like, "they shouldn't be doing that, its not an improved phone on Verizon, only Alltel". She added another comment about how Asurion isn't sure if it'll be classified as a voice device or data device... She said something about forwarding the information on to her manager and finding out what was going on and she'd get back to me.
My Auto / Home insurance provider wants $100/year to insure the phone for me. A little high for me. On the other hand, I'm not sure how much longer I can hold out on waiting for this phone.
Hmmm, I spoke with Asurion last week. They told me that they did not cover ALLTEL and my area. Did not offer any other suggestions, so off to State Farm I went. Got a floater on my home owners for $50 a year. It has a $100 deductable on it and I was able to cover the SD card and all the accessories too.
Not as good as what Asurion does, but none the less, it keeps me from paying $649 again.
Worth the $50...

I got the same answer from Verizon as Alan. My 7135 is insured according to them, and they told me (as they did Alan) that they will insure any phone they activate.

But, is it worth filing a claim with a $100 deductable for a $110 SD card? Although, I suppose if something bad is going to happen to the phone, the SD card and perhaps other accessories will be affected... I'll stop thinking out loud now
Great idea to make sure accessories are covered by the policy!
For those of you who think that your 7135 is covered just because the sales person said so, please ask another few sources for their input. Also ask if they insure Thera. Thier response should be no. That would void their first statement that they insure anything that is active on their network. I know for a fact that that statement is not true. I have researched it and been confirmed by my DM. Buyer beware...

Well, I figured if the phone got lifted the SD card would most likely be in it. Hence why all the accessories are insured.
Plus with State Farm the minimum policy was $50, and I think JUST the phone came to around $35, so I started adding stuff. SD card, travel charger, ciggarette lighter adapter, ect.
Still kept it at $50, so why not...

Now why would they want to do that? Of course, you are correct that "because the sales person said so" is not likely a winning argument.
Is there a written contract? Read every word.
You can also write a letter confirming receipt of your insurance for the 7135 and ask the sales agent to sign it....

Yes, if you have a contract. As a practical matter, if you are just basing it on what some rep says over the phone, then you probably won't be able to enforce it if Verizon later says that they never insured the phone. Always ask for something in writing. Anyone who signs up for insurance over the phone should have them send you a copy of the policy showing you are insured. If they refuse, and all you have is a charge on your bill, it is going to be tough to prove what is being insured unless the bill explicitly says "replacement insurance for Kyocera 7135." Even then, you won't know the exclusions and limitations until you make a claim.
Originally posted by Markito Yep, OBVIOUSLY Verizon did sell the 6035 and almost all of us bought the insurance. I'm sure the big V will have ins available for the 7135. If not, we could always check with our own insurance agents.
Right on, It's just a guess at this point. At first the INS for the 6035 was a ?, and then all of a sudden it was a yes. Now they do not offer INS on the Audiovox Thera (Pocket PC phone) so if they do offer it on the 7135 and I sincerely hope they do it will be well worth it.
Can you buy a 7135 from Alltel and have it insured through Assurion or the other company... NO!! since it hasn't been approved yet.
So Buyer Beware. Your buying an unsupported phone at a higher price with no chance of cheap replacement at this time.
Also realize that because VZW has not released it yet, the technicians will not have access to support software or the kpt tools etc.
Originally posted by alanb on the other hand. vzw's lawyers probably won't bother to show up in small claims court for a $650 claim and you will win a summary judgement.
I wouldn't count on it. I am sure that they have armies of lawyer drones to handle just these type of cases. And they get paid for showing up in small claims court.
Hi everyone, long time viewer first time writer. I just recieved my new 7135 through Kyocera. I have had the phone turned on through Verizon in Las Vegas Nevada and I also got the insurance for the phone also. The Verizon rep first though that this phone might not be insurable at first because he said that the Thera phone that they carry can not be insured. He called the insurance company and talked with the insurance agent and then he gave me the phone to talk with the agent too. I have talked with the insurance agent that deals with verizon phones and they told me that the phone can be insured and the agent told me some questions about myself and told me that they will call my 7135 so that they know that the phone is working.
( I AM INSURED!!!!!)
