are the rest of us allowed to respond to posts in this thread, even if we don't have a 7135? haven't you guys punished us enough by flaunting it in our faces?

I personally would jump on this if I was on verizon. kito, dwdod... anybody starting to consider it? what if jj/jazz got confirmation that the alltel phones are 100% the same as what you are waiting for? hmmmm....

its just too big a leap for me. early termination, can't trade in the treo, 3G 1000% more $$$, my plan is too good to lose... the list goes on. but of course if I didn't have my treo the all reason is out the window

Well, I would jump on it except for the fact that I'm getting one for free. When I received the announcement that I had won the contest, I was salivating over the fact that I'd get mine quickly. Now my biggest fear is that I'll be the LAST guy on the block to get mine...

I ordered the Alltel phone without a plan yesterday afternoon. Given the holiday, I don't expect to get it before Monday, but I will be activating it on Verizon right away (with express network if all goes according to plan....), so next week it will be time for another DC area Kyo Krazy meeting. We'll need to do it during the week though, because I need to go to NY for my Mom's 70th birthday party next weekend. We could meet on the 1'st if you'all have the day off. (I have a feeling I will need to get a kensington lock cable for the wrist strap if I have any hope of going home with my phone though...).

Called Verizon customer service today. I have to wait until tomorrow to speak with the national accounts dept. (my line has my name and my employer's name on it) to find out if I can add express network to the phone. I'll keep you guys posted.

Initial Comments: VZ Activation Success

Hi All:

While I've had the 7135 for less than an hour, I wanted to offer some info to those of you who purchased an Alltel 7135 for activation on Verizon ...

1. YES -- it WILL WORK. However, I did go to a Verizon Wireless store to do it; and the guy that did is a salesperson who I've dealt with (which means you MAY or MAY NOT encounter someone who'll activate it for you ... and the same would be true through VZW Cust. Service by phone.

2. My activation was successful, DESPITE that Alltel is on the A Side and VZW where I live is on the B Side. If your situation is similar to mine, then make sure that the VZW person activating the phone does it via *228nn, depending on where VZW is (A or B).

3. As the above comment indicates -- *228nn OTA programming WILL work on the Alltel 7135, despite rumors to the contrary on other threads.

More later!

IF you could get confirmation from jj/jazz about the Alltel model... couldn't you get them to just send you an unactivated 7135 that you could then take to Verizon? (and could you please do this by Sunday!!! )

Successfully Activated with Verizon

OK, I got my phone from Kyocera Direct (GetConnected web site) about 20 minutes ago, called up Verizon, and <POOF>, it's activated and working.

Wee-Haa!

I gave them the ESN, then dial *22800 and it went off without a hitch. I just need to get in and remove the ALLTEL message from the display (and the logo sticker on the phone just says Kyocera and 7135 - no AllTel stickers).

I'm in the Southeast Michigan / Detroit Area.

..still have to switch over to the express network plan and try that out...

Ok now I'm really getting tempted. If anyone knows a way to replace the Alltel screen with a custom startup animation that might push me over the edge.

How about it? :thinkerg

I did it!!

I did it!! I just got the phone and called 1-866-ESN-CHNG (866-376-2464).

I gave her the new ESN she asked for brand I told her Kyocera--She asked for model and I sheepishly said 6035 not 7135 (I didn't want to take any chances)--

She said--call *228 and press 1 then after that dial *228 again and press 2 to update PRL--

It worked--Now I am happily with my 7135--

Does anyone know how to change the ALLTel banner?

Thanks--

Scott

Got the Express network activated after another conversation with a surprised Verizon tech!

The speed is decent for sites that aren't too feature rich, but a little slower for some of the heavier stuff. Visited the smartphonesource site and it looks great.

I'll keep fooling with today and post some more.

To remove/change the ALLTEL text at the top of the phone application's display, simply tap the "Prefs Phone" icon, select "Display" from the drop-down menu and there ya go.

As for the power-up and power-down banner, I don't have a clue, but this thing will probably only power off and on a couple of times a year, so who cares (it will be gentle reminder of getting it BEFORE ALMOST EVERYBODY ELSE!)

I figured there is probably no way to change the power on logo unless you go to a Verizon Store and they flash it---

So far so good---I like it---

I'm up and running. I called my Verizon girl that I have worked with for years and gave her the esn. She called me back three minutes later and said dial *228 and then hit 1. All done.

I noticed that someone said to hit 2 to change the prl, My person didn't mention that. Do I need to do it?

I have set the prefs and this phone is way cool. Great sound effects.

Dialed 611 from my 6035. Nice lady asked for ESN, told me to wait 1 hour then dial *228 option 1 then *228 option 2. I was off the phone in less that 4 minutes.
