Congratulations to mhzimmer who has won the 2nd 7135 Smartphone from smartphonesource.com! Alltel approved the 7135 on Tuesday, December 10th at 3pm PST, in which case mhzimmer was the closest contest guess with Dec 10 AM.
The 7135 should be available for retail purchase at Alltel stores on Dec 20th, just barely in time for Christmas!

I can't believe that I won literally hours before caving in and heading off to CC to buy the Treo! (I was only holding off until today on the remote chance that my guess might actually turn out to be valid. At this point I never imagined it would...)
Now I have to decide whether to switch to Alltel or hold out for Verizon -- and continue the suffering. But at least for all our sake this hopefully means there is actually light at the end of the tunnel!
yeah just hold out for verizon... you had accomplished the hard part, which is securing the 7135 for FREE, now just wait until verizon does the launch... you will be glad you did in the long run..
Well, I called Alltel just to see what their coverage was like and how internet access would work with the 7135, in case it was worth giving them a shot. I explained how I just won the phone, etc., etc...
The CS rep I spoke with said he didn't know anything about the phone or how it would work. I told him that Alltel just announced it's release and it was due in stores the end of the month. And, I said, I was trying to decide whether to activate it on Verizon or on Alltel. He reiterated that he knew nothing. I tried again and told him "well if you don't know anything about the phone, I guess I'll have to stick with Verizon", hoping he would at least try to find out more in order to sign up a new customer. Instead he told me to have a nice day, and hung up the phone.
Well, I guess I'm waiting for Verizon with the rest of y'all...
How come Kyocera didn't release an announcement that the 7135 is now available? I am sure all of us have signed up via the kyocera wireless website to be notified by email when the 7135 is available. What's the deal?
I don't see how kyocera could give a way this many phones and not offer rebates for the rest of the contestant. We don't even have 100 contestants for this contest. I'm not saying offer $100 rebate or something. But something like $50 or $25. Then we can use that money on accessories.

Where was this approval anyway, I can't find anything on Alltel's website or Kyocera's. I wouldl like to know so I can show it to my local Alltel reps who say they won't be carrying the phone.

So, let me get this straight; we have two winners of the contest because two carriers have announced the 7135 is available. In addition, people are now the proud owners of accessories to the phone. Yet, the 7135 is still not for sale and cannot be obtained anywhere. Don't get me wrong, I did not enter the contest and am not complaining about the rules; nor am I questioning the judgment of those who have purchased the accessories. (I have also been tempted.) However, doesn't it strike anyone else as slightly absurd that there is all of this real life activity surrounding a phone that still does not exist in the real commercial world? As far as I can tell, putting all of the hype aside, we are in the exact same place we were back in June; the 7135 looks like a great phone but is not yet available for purchase.

I feel like im exposing a deep seated prejudice, but i never thought Australia even counted. Nothing is less relevant to me than the cell phones of Australia.
As you more or less said Larry, this to me feels identical to much earlier in the year. We had new pictures to look at once in a while then too, which, to me, is all thats happening lately--a few new jpegs and pdfs to look at, but not even a date on the phone by a fairly popular supplier.

I would like to express my unending gratitude for your generous donation of three Kyocera 7135 smart phones to be raffled off for the benefit of our forum.
P.S. The losers are really angry that they are not getting free accessories as consolation prizes. They can't see how you could donate so much without donating more!
