Walk down memory lane

Do you remember the first time you beheld a 6035. My hands were sweating I was so nervous.

Anyway, will you play with it at the store before you buy it or will you just take your 5 crisp $100 bills and slam them on the counter and demand your phone.

I'm thinking the later sounds good. I can't really see myself playing around with it and saying

"nah I'll wait another year to see what else is coming"

"play time" will be for when I get my 7135 home! I'll play with a display model while I wait for them to figure out how to program my 7135 though (I'm sure we'll have lots of time to kill )

But I don't need to even touch it to make my decision.

I'll play with mine for a few minutes while they figure out what they're doing. You have to watch Verizon because when I bought the 6035 they tried to sell me one that was already opened and probably played with by other people.

I want my 7135 to be a virgin, straight out of the box. The imprinting stage is so important with a newborn phone. :blue

I'm actually going to play with mine a bit too. Wear it in the holster, try out the headset, etc. I never want to appear to be too easy a sell. Of course, inside I'll really be losing it! Gotta remember to breathe normally and swallow regularly lest they notice the drool forming on the corner of my mouth.

Whoops, did I use the word "mine" before I would actually buy it? I guess it's no use hiding my anticipation any longer... :p

Store, what tore? I'm calling my Sprint Rep(business account), and tell him to have it ordered, shipped, and billed to my account (like I did with my i300). So the first time I see it will be when the UPS guy walks in the door that day.

Risky! What if if gets lost in the mail and you log on to the board and were all raving about how cool the screen it etc. Don't want to wish any bad luck on you or anything but I'm not taking any chances.

Mine's going to be hand delivered by our corporate account rep. Being the Network Admin I get first crack at the phone in our company. I have to evaluate it for use by our employees. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.

Haven't been on this board in a long time...lurked a few days before re-registering. Lost my original reg with the upgrade. I love my 6035 to death but I'm ready for the new toy and I'm not sweating the price, my employer is footing the bill.

A side note, I spoke with our corp rep from Verizon yesterday and he said mid Nov, but we all know anything can happen to change that. I'm working very hard on my patience.

Hey Red,

One of the main reasons I'm upgrading to the 7135 is because of the high speed access. The problem is my network admin won't let me utilize a VPN. Instead I'll have to access our network via RAS at the slower 14.4 speed.

His hands are tied to a large degree by our holding company but any suggestions on how to bring him around to my thinking on this?

I don't think I'll play around at the store - I have hours and hours of upcoming bus rides for my playing pleasure!

On that note...I'm in a race to get the 7135 by 19 November, when I leave on a seven-month U.S. tour with a musical! Say, if it's not out by then (gasp), and I end up getting the phone in, say, Tallahassee, do you think the Verizon people in Florida would set me up with a New York City phone number?

Cheers,
Seth

pdageek~

Hello to you too.

I wish I could offer you some advice on how to stimulate some change in your remote access. Unfortunately, it sounds like you aren't just dealing with one level of admins. Without knowing the details of the entire network I can't fairly evaluate how it is being done or recommend a different solution...that would be pretty presumptuous of me.

While VPN is my choice for remote access in my network (cost, security and versatility), there are still many who stick with RAS because they believe it is more secure or perhaps because that's the way "it has always been done". I'm sure your IT dept has some good reason behind their choice of remote access. Unless you know someone in the upper tier who will listen to your ideas about and frustrations with connection speed it will probably be a futile battle. Sorry for the bad news. But at the risk of offending anyone here, we admins are usually egomaniacs who are sure that our way is the best for everyone. I have caught myself displaying a little "Nick Burns" every now and then. :devillook

I never really saw the 6035 as something desirable. It was a plain grayscale pda that was bigger and had software conflicts(Of course at the time I didn't need a cell phone). At the time I had(And still do) a Visor Platinum, which basically runs every non-Color non-Hires game in existence.
Don't flame me, but I was miffed when a bunch of the games I beamed to a friend with it crashed it like a 747 on an empty tank. I can only hope that stuff was fixed for this puppy.

I have had my 6035 since the day it was launched and I can honestly say that mine has never crashed due to an application or game. Ever. The only time it did crash was when I filled the memory all the way up and had to remove a few things, but probably all Palms would do that if maxed out.

Mainly I think it was some old version of Bejeweled and a bunch of music applications that play little ditties.

Yeah, the Palm OS is very stable. I've probably had to do about 10 soft resets and a couple hard resets. Not too bad over such a long time period.
