External Monitor for the 7135

OK, i need help with people that are smarter than me for an idea.

First. This idea was tapped into in the previous/ Laptop Replacement

This phone actually is my laptop replacement for some trips.

I have seen these screens (mostly like for playstation) 5 inch LCD's

they have those SD cards that have monitor connections on them

Could these be used as an external monitor. For like reading the paper?

the 2 obvious issues are connectability and screen resolution.

As far as I know, there is no kind of connector to resend the image information through the SD slot. I am guessing you would need some pretty nasty software to trap the video information and reformat it for this kind of screen. Frankly, you are probably better off getting one of those big magnifiers they sell for Gameboy and to make your 13 inch television into a 24 inch television. Low-tech solution and nothing to smooth out the pixels, but it works and you can always use it to focus sunlight to cook hotdogs and small insects when you are not using your 7135.

(Seriously, I have gone the Palm-as-laptop-replacement-route before. If you just want it to check e-mail a couple times a day and to write up short reports, it will work. If you want to do any heavy websurfing, work with spreadsheets, or write anything longer than 10 pages, you are better off investing in a cheap laptop. I just got a Thinkpad 600e for $400 on eBay. I have found iBooks on eBay for $300.)

I agree with Nomad7674. The whole reason we invested in these combo devices is to not have to carry so many devices.

If I have to carry around a 5" screen with me I might as well bring my laptop.

yeah yeah, i know most of you don't need it but, i need a phone sized deal 85% of the time and if i could get a screen for the other 15% for a hundred, hundred 50 bucks, it would be Sweeet. I have an i300, reading the paper isn't always fun

AAAAND

i think the real trick is going to be a Blue Tooth 5 inch monitor that is touch screen. So its just a dummy monitor for all the info stored on your phone, nice and thin and light

Aaron :wiggle

or, we need an interface to those sunglass computer monitor deals, blue tooth. Thats the ticket, inside your sunglasses

Looks like you'd need a scan converter to connect the vga output from Margi presenter-to-go-SD to the Svideo connector on the LCD screen you show. If you used a vga monitor, it should be a straight shot.

The readability of the mirror view depends on the margi software. Too much zoom shows up pixelization or the jaggies. Wouldn't be a problem if the fonts are drawn by vectors, but I doubt the palm fonts are vectors.

Still, the 7135 is specifically listed as supported!!!!!!

I would love to try it out. Or, if someone could convince Margi to put up some screenshots showing what any supported color palm screen would look like on a VGA monitor that would do it. Or hell, why stop there, why not get a projector and have your palm screen about 6 feet tall projected on a wall? That would be super kewl.

Just remember that the margi card, doesn't project your palm screen, it takes presentations and passes them to the vga output.

Well forget Margi then-- Maybe Portsmith will make a 7135 model or some kind of universal model of its "Pitch. " Its a VGA Sled that --

Includes iDisplay for displaying the live screen of the Palm device - no need for an Elmo unit!
You can buy one for 249 only for palm Mseries now at Igo

See the video of it Here just a few videos below the 7135-- It can do palm screens as well as presentations AND becase its a sled it leaves the SD card open-- If you had a SD with a video you could theoretically hook it up to a projecotor or monitor, and watch them or...... you could just read the newspaper on a larger monitor!

My understanding from our sales people is that the Margi Mirror software actually does show the contents of your PDA. They claim to use it in training from time to time, but they may lie.
