[Edit]: Nevermind. Undertrained sales reps plus over-enthusiastic smartphoners are a bad combination.
The Kyocera 7135 will not be available from Qwest this Friday for $79 after rebate. In fact, it will not be available from Qwest, ever. The phone referred to in the original post below is the Kyo 5135, but a sales rep insisted it was the 7135 with a Palm OS.
Qwest is apparently releasing the 7135 [/Edit]
this Friday and they're selling it for $159 and it comes with an $80 rebate!
That's seventy-nine US dollars for what is quite possibly the sexiest phone on the market right now! (it's also about 1/5th of what I paid for my 6035 :p)
Anyway, the other one or two Qwest subscribers on this board had better get your dialing fingers ready (877-879-0611) because someone at corporate might just wise up to this awesome deal before you get in on it.
Are you sure it is the 7135? I've called the corporate number and two Qwest retail centers here in the Phoenix area. The folks I spoke to said they aren't going to carry the 7135 but the new 5135 (http://www.kyocera-wireless.com/show..._soon_5135.htm). Looking at the 5135, I don't think the $159 price is unreasonable. Where did you get your information?
What a terrific deal!!! I called within 3 minutes of reading this email and they confirmed what you said. However, this offer isn't available in all areas.......
I use Qwest long distance at home, but wireless Qwest is not available in Kansas. Good luck to those of you who can get this deal. It really sounds way too good to be true. The rep. I talked with said this offer would be available this Thursday or Friday!!!
First, kudos to this board for being so incredibly on top of any info regarding this phone.
I too called the number for Qwest and the deal is as described. Unfortunately, Qwest only services 14 states, and the phone will not work off their network.
Regardless, I've got to believe that this offer (at this price) will have to have an impact on all other carriers. If their offers are remotely close to this, Kyocera will dominate with this phone.
This information makes me think that there won't be a delay with Sprint (JMHO.)
Well, I just called the local Verizon Store and they haven't herald or read a thing, I call Verizon Service Center and they do have several new phones being released this Friday but not the 7135. They could not find a release date in any of they documentation.
The funny thing is that I went to Verizon's wed site and they don’t even list the 6035 on the web site any longer. They did as of Friday PM, so I still think the 7135 will be release very soon with Verizon, the only questions are when and for how much.

Enjoy the journey, it should be just as much fun as the destination.

One of the things that I have discovered in 60 years of life is...if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't.

I just checked the Verizonwireless web site and, at least for my zip code (20815) in Maryland, the 6035 is still shown as being available, and still $249.00.

I don't mean to be a downer, but I called a few more Qwest wireless stores in a different market. Once again, I did get confirmation that a Kyocera *5135* will be available this Friday for $159. However, all of the reps that I spoke to said they would not carry the 7135. One rep even said that the 7135 was designed for "high speed data service which we don't have...try sprint."
My theory is that some well meaning Qwest folks on the phone are getting their 7135s and their 5135s mixed up. I fear the sad truth is that those of us who will go to any lengths to snag a 7135 are not going to be switching to Qwest this Friday.

Hmm, I hate to say it, but there's a possibilty you're right. The rep talked about how the phone was demonstrated to them last month and how the flip design was so great, but I just realized that the 5135 is flip as well. I'll call the guy back and verify tomorrow.
Qwest actually pulled the 6035 ages ago because they simply were not selling them. Last I heard, they had clearanced out the last of the 6035s just before Best Buy was selling them around the $100 mark.

Yep, that has to be exactly what happened.... and I guess it goes to show that Quest customer service is as clueless as the rest. Am I correct that Quest doesn't even support data with the 6035? And since when does Quest have a 3G compatible network even in development?
p.s. I would've done a lot more research before I would've believed the 7135 would be available for $79 (before 2004).... I wouldn't want to chance having to face the wrath of the those in the cages you have rattled

This is SIMPLY way too good to be true. I strongly feel there is no way he'll have a 7135 by Friday, at any price. We all know how screwed up all the reps are, no two have the same info.
And the Qwest coverage area is kinda sad and teeny.
AArgh! Noo, it's true! After a second rep told me the 7135 was coming out this week for super cheap, I drilled them until they made absolutely sure (checked with a manager) and it is the 5135 that they're selling. Turns out they have no plans of carrying it (Robert K. is right). Well, that's a real bummer.
Guess my excitment got the best of logic. But still, I had the guy I spoke to yesterday verify the phone and the price not once, but three times. Apparently he was "verifying" it from memory each time. ...heheh, I wonder if the sod is going to call me back on Friday after he realizes his mistake.
Anyhow, it looks like I'm in the green to terminate my contract with Qwest, so I'll be in line with everyone else to shell out $500 when the other networks get the urge to release the phone for real.
Verizon (rumour ville) is possibly looking to acquire Qwest in which case yes it would eventually get a high data network, and as for that lofty low price being quoted earlier... if someone GIVES you a BMW for FREE wouldn't you question WHY? ... get real folks I'd bet on a release price between $500 and $700... not negotiating any rebates.
The Qwest rep told me exactly the same thing, I got excited and posted it here. He said it was definitely the 7135. Talked about the features of the phone and how cool it was, and was obviously confused. Oh well, this forum still rocks for info.
