The article on the 7135 in the 2/4 issue of PC Magazine is basically a reprint of the article from November posted on the previous page of this forum. There are slight differences in the text like it was re-edited but most of it is the same.

Hey Verizon, where is the 7135?
Can you hear me now?
I'm sure everyone's seen this already, but in case you haven't, the latest issue of Pen Computing has a list of the top 40 products of 2002, and guess which beloved convergence device is among them? There were no actual ranking numbers assigned, but the 7135 WAS on the first page...
There's a nice beauty shot of the 7135 in the 2/3 issue of... PEOPLE magazine. Sheesh. It's a branding ad for Kyo, so you won't get any info out of it, but it shore iz purdy...
I just started using Vindigo for the first time, today. (I LOVE it by the way, though I know everybody has a very strong opinion of it one way or the other.) Anyway, each screen has an ad on it, which actually doesn't really bother me... I've become desensitized to advertising. But what did I see but a Kyo 7135 ad on each screen! It was fun to see it in Vindigo.
Did anyone else read the Businessweek article in the 2/10/03 edition "Smart Phones: Try, try again"?
Essentially a pan of both the 7135 and sph-I330.
The reviewer does not appear to have done an in-depth review or state criteria for the evaluation, but comes to the conclusion that he doesn't see why anyone would choose either over the Treo.
I just read it a couple of minutes ago. I have a question. Is the author correct when he writes:
"Even though the 7135 is Kyocera's third try at a Palm-based phone, there is still woefully little integration between the Palm and the voice portions of the device. If you touch the display when in phone mode, you get this annoying message: 'The phone application is not touch-sensitive.' To which I can only ask: Why not? You can dial a number from the Palm address book, but, lacking the Handspring Treo's scroll wheel and quick search functions, it's almost impossible to do one-handed."
I posted this same question a week or two ago and was assured that one can use the Palm feature (to, say, look up a date in the calendar) while talking on the phone.
He is correct in that with the Phone app running, there are not touch screen applications, they use the up/down/ok button. I have used the address book and calendar while on the phone and while on speakerphone. Like all things, one needs to dig into the answer to the question.

I have answered this before, but I'll do it one more time as rebuttal to the article (ever notice that any time you read an article about something you personally know about, you see how BAD reporting is today?).
You can use all PALM applications while on the phone, and the screen is touch sensitive. There are a couple of applications specifcally having to do with controlling the phone which do not have touch sensitive components. They require the scroll and OK buttons to navigate. If you touch the screen while one of htese applications is running, you will get the error message telling you to use the scroll and OK buttons. That's it. No mystery, no problem.....

If you are using a palm application and the phone rings, can you answer without interrupting the app?
since it seems like most of the people on this board are too busy driving around in their audis with their 7135s going from board meeting to board meeting, i don't think anybody else on here saw the article in the new FHM magazine. (Most people on here probably get "esquire" or "men's health" or some other high brow mag.) the phone was featured in the new gadgets section and from the previous history, anything in this section that has not yet been released, usually is within a few weeks.

LOL - don't drive an audi, own a 7135, sit on a board (or go to their meetings), or subscribe to any magazines. I also know nothing about FHM magazine. It sounds like one I might like to subscribe to. What does FHM stand for? Also thanks for the interesting news - beginning to sound like the first week in March could be an interesting date
I seemed to have misplaced my Audi and missed the last board meeting!!
But .... the Feb 2003 issue of Laptop magazine has a smartphone comparision and selected the 7135 as the clear winner vs the Treo 300, Nokia 9290, Siemens SX56, and Toshiba 2032SP.

YIKES!! Now I KNOW this is a mag I am interested in getting a subscription to. With the cover available, we can turn our imaginations loose on what FHM stands for. on second thought..... :alieneyes

Oh, come on now guys......... all those Baywatch chicks are washed-up has-beens! Do you really want a mag that has to go that far down into the "B-list" to find someone for there cover? Of course not! For "quality" reading, Maxim is the only way to go! (lol... I've never even bought a copy... but I've never looked at the cover of a Maxim in the bookstore and thought to myself "is this a back issue from like 5 years ago?" like I did when I saw the FHM cover!).
Back on Topic... do you think that Kyocera feels a little like they wasted some marketing dollars by advertising the 7135 heavily at a time that was way before it will be available to wide audiences? (i.e. Do you think they marketed the 7135 thinking it was going to be released much sooner?).
