I just read on one of the PDA sites that the price is going to be $600 for the Kyocera 7135 and its only a Palm.
I just realized yesterday that the 7135 does not have keypad that is backlit. I sent Kyo an email saying:
I just learned that the "coming soon" (who knows when) Kyo 7135 does NOT have a backlit keypad! After all the improvements you've made to the smartphone you missed the basics in design. I am a QCP6035 user for over a year and have been waiting anxiously for the 7135 only to find this serious flaw (at least to me). If I can't see the phone to dial, all the new
features won't be helpful.
The Kyo replied:
Thank you for your interest in Kyocera Wireless Corp. CDMA digital wireless
products.
The illumination of the color Palm LCD should allow you to see the Keypad.
A typical answer from a sales weeny! I will be seriously considering another phone!
I just knew my wait for the 7135 was for nought! I need to read more carefully. What do you think about the Kyo response (use the LCD to see the keyboard)? Thanks again, Nuclear_69

Not that I think anyone here is offering up misleading information, but it looks like we will have to wait and see, maybe a beta tester can upload some video of the backlit keyboard...

Yea, and my home page is set to pcmag.com so everytime I open a browser window, I see it. Home page used to be set to palminfocenter.com, but I changed it after editor Ed Hardy went to brighthand.com where he also talks about pocketpc devices. The slip about the un-lit keypad is only 1 of about 30 issues I had with the review which is full of half-truths and confusion. Sally should stick to her areas of expertise and let smartphone geeks write the smartphone reviews.

You mean your wait *wasn't* for nought.
As for the Kyo salesperson response; well, let's just say that by and large they're probably not much more informed than most Verizon salespersons. If these boards have shown us anything, it's that very few people are *fully* in the loop.
But we wait......and wait...... and wait......and......:beer well, at least *I* do.

the button could be for remotely turning on your car and home lights...
I would wager that in the 10+ year history of mobile phones, there not been a single phone released with a "non-backlit" keypad.
Even if they originally created the phone w/ no backlight I think that in the approximately 18 months of teasing the public someone (or three) would have mentioned.....that the emperor has no clothes on.....

Unless they figure the palm screen is so bright that its light will be enough to shine down on the keys... I wonder if thats whats happening and it just washes out the existing keypad lights cause its so bright and the reviewer couldnt tell they were on.
On page 33 of the December 2002 Computer Shopper the 7135 is the featured product in the Gear section. This article mentions that the 7135 is "slated to hit store shelves before the holidays". Hrmm... Nice Photo, not too much else.
In this month's Continental Airlines magazine. There is a page dedicated to the Kyocera 7135. It is a general overview of its features and is pretty positive about the product. No word on pricing or carrier availability. Even had a picture of the smartphone browsing Continental's website.
Saw the "article" on my way back to client in North Texas this morning. Pretty good way to end my trip to the Big Easy.

Cheers, y'all...
Thanks for the heads up. I'm flying on Continental to Dallas on Thursday, I'll check it out.
