Toshiba developed the original Bluetooth SD Card for Palm.
"Possibly the most significant improvement is that the new card is .35 inches shorter than the old one and no longer has a slight bulge at the end. This means it will come much closer to fitting entirely inside the handheld than the current one does. " (quoted from PIC)
One interesting comment I read on an 802.11 discussion was that when some person started using BT, their 802.11 transfer rate dropped by 50%. They didn't interfere to the point of non-usage, but the error checking was problematic. Something to think about if you're going 802.11b at home...

Weren't we talking about bluetooth headsets in another thread? While those 900mhz wireless headsets are a novel idea, having to plug in a base unit to the phone makes it somewhat less transportable. If I expected to make some phone calls while doing other stuff with my hands, it would be handy to leave for work with the bluetooth SD card plugged in and whip out the wireless headset to make calls. As I'm handling knives and such at work, I'd prefer to use a wireless headset, and still have easy access to the palm side for checking/entering data.
With computers I'm not an optimist. What guarantee would one have that a toshiba bluetooth SD card in a kyocera smartphone would communicate with a plantronics bluetooth headset? On the Palm page for it's bluetooth card, it lists drivers for supported phones. What kind of drivers would be needed for this scenerio?

Yeah, bluetooth would still seem to be the ideal method for a wireless headset.... we'll just have to see if we get that option

Bluetooth sucks because its a propreitary standard, meaning only one company has ownership of the technology. On the other hand, 802.11b or better known as Wi-Fi, is an open engineering standard with no single company having ownership. This frees up royalty costs, which is very attractive to future manufacturers.
So in the end, more people will make products over the Wi-Fi than the Bluetooth. Not only that, Wi-Fi has a much longer range than Bluetooth.

what are you talking about bluetooth is a consortium effort to make a universal standard. I didn't think there were any roylaties, but i don't know for sure, the companies that are in the consortium are
