Switched the RF board in a 7135
For those who are interested, my 7135, originally on the Alltel network, was moved to the Verizon network when Verizon bought Alltel. Although I had no software problems, I did have a number of physical problems due to the unit being dropped several times and otherwise abused. In particular, several vertical segments of the small mono display on top of the unit had stopped working and the Grafitti writing area was badly scratched. A coworker who had been supplied with a 7135 on the Verizon network by the company we worked for did not like it (too big, too heavy, etc.) and used it only a couple of months before replacing it with a smaller unit. When he was laid off, he gave his slightly used 7135 to me. I put it on the shelf for a couple of years until mine developed the problems described above. Since this 7135 had originally been on the Verizon network, I considered calling Verizon after they bought Alltel and asking them to deactivate my Alltel 7135 and activate the newer 7135 in its place. They already have me flagged as eligible for a new phone since I had my Alltel 7135 for considerably more than two years when the switch occurred.
Being concerned that such an action would restart the two period, I decided to move the RF board from the Alltel 7135 to the Verizon 7135 (along with the SD card). It all worked perfectly. I now have a virtually new 7135 without envolving Verizon. I restored the new 7135 from the SD card and, except for the display and Grafitti problems being gone, I can't tell any difference.
