How do I add a new service to network preferences?

If you are having difficulties with an existing Network Service, issues can sometimes be cleared up by creating a new service.

To add a new Network Service, perform the following steps (The following procedure assumes that you are beginning from the All pick list in the Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) applications screen.):

Using the stylus, scroll to and tap to select Prefs PDA.

From the Preferences pick list, tap to select Network.

To create a new Network Service, tap the Dropdown menu icon.

From the Service menu, tap to select New. You can also tap to select Duplicate if the currently selected Network Service is similar to the Network Service you would like to create.

From the Quick 2 Net dialog box, tap OK.

From the Service line, you may use the Graffiti(R) writing area to enter a unique name for the Network Service. If the cursor is not currently positioned on the Service line, use the stylus to activate the cursor by tapping the line next to Service.

Enter the User Name that is provided to you by your Internet Service Provider (ISP), phone service provider or network administrator. Your User Name is generally case sensitive. If you do not have a User Name, you must contact your provider or administrator to obtain one. Once you have received a User Name, do not attempt to change the User Name unless you have first consulted with your provider/administrator. Incorrectly modifying the User Name will cause the Network Service to be unable to connect to your provider.

Next to Password, tap to select Prompt.

Within the Password dialog box, you may use the Graffiti writing area to enter the password that is provided to you by your ISP, phone service provider or network administrator. Tap OK. Passwords are generally case sensitive. If you do not have a Password, you must contact your provider or administrator to obtain one. Once you have received a Password, do not attempt to change the Password unless you have first consulted with your provider/administrator. Modifying the Password will cause the Network Service to be unable to connect to your provider. If you do not assign a password in Step nine, the Kyocera 7135 Smartphone will prompt for your password at the appropriate time during a connection.

From the Connection pick list, tap to select Wireless Modem.

Next to Phone, tap to select Tap to enter phone.

Next to Phone #, you may use the Graffiti writing area to enter the 10-digit phone number that is provided to you by your ISP. Tap OK. For data services provided by your wireless phone provider, this may be a shorter code number, such as #777 or #2932. Check with your wireless phone provider if you are unsure of the number.

From the Preferences window, tap Details.

Within the Details dialog box, review the current settings. For most connections, the default settings shown below are adequate. If you are unsure of these settings, you will need to contact your ISP.

Connection type = PPP

Idle timeout = 1 Minute

Query DNS = selected if the ISP supports domain name system (DNS) querying. Primary DNS and Secondary DNS will be provided by the ISP, if required.

IP Address = Automatic

If a Log in Script is necessary, tap Script.

Use the End pick list while consulting with the provider or administrator for details in writing the Log in Script. Scripts are typically required by ISPs that do not make use of Password Authentication Protocol (PAP) or similar systems.

You may tap the Application Launcher icon when finished to return to the PDA applications screen.
