Can I move my stuff from one 7135 to another with Hotsync?

This is a recap of moving all data from one 7135 to a new one, NOT moving from a 6035, Palm, Treo, or something else.

Today after activating my second brand-new 7135, I popped it into the Hotsync cradle and pressed the Hotsync button.

EVERTHING that was originally on the FIRST 7135 transferred. Here are details:

All "expected" data (Phone Book, Date Book, To Do, etc.) synched completely on the new 7135, as well as Palm PDA preferences (number formats, etc.).

All PHONE Preferences were restored perfectly. This INCLUDES the file restore of MP3 files used as sounds (for example, an MP3 used as a sound when the flip is opened was restored, as well as that phone preference.

JPEGs, WMFs, etc. were also restored and in their original "directory.

FYI I just found out that there are TWO items which ARE NOT restored to your configuration when restoring a 7135:

The first was ONE phone preference -- for some weird reason, the Keypad preference I had of using "Tones" reverted back to the System default of "Clicks."

The SECOND setting that DOES NOT get restored is Voice Dialing. ALL Voice dial entries AND training ARE NOT restored to the 7135 during a Hotsync. So ... you WILL have to retrain Voice Dial and MANUALLY ADD Voice Dial entries.

But other than that -- in short, if you sync your 7135 and later have to do a hard reset (or in my case, get a new 7135) ... the first sync will restore your phone as it originally was. [/siz]

UPDATE!!!!

It seems that a modification to my original FAQ on a 7135 restore from Hotsync is in order.

IF you perform a Hotsync Restore to a NEW 7135 -- then Phone prefs such as keypad sound and Voice Training WILL NOT port to the NEW unit.

HOWEVER ... IF you perform a Hotsync restore on the SAME 7135 handset -- then it appears that ALL data AND preferences (including Phone) WILL be restored.

It SEEMS that Hotsync will restore your phone preferences IF the s/w sees that you're restoring to a 7135 with the identical ESN. FYI I don't think the phone number of the handset matters ... because I had OTA'd the new 7135 BEFORE performing a Hotsync restore.

However, yesterday as a test I cleared ALL data from the 7135 by removing the battery for 2 hours. Upon doing the Restore, EVERYTHING was as it was before.
