2005 Newbie Summary

I just got a 6035 and ran thru a variety of things that I thought I would ramble off.

Firmware: Sprint and Verizon use different firmware, though apparently you can cross use the phones.

The last FW is SX1.1.11 & KT1.1.23 for Sprint and SX1.1.12 & KZ1.1.21 for Verizon.

Dial 11-1111 (6 ones) then click the button on the side to see SW versions and such.

LBOcean has the files for Verizon ( http://www.lbocean.com/6035/ ). Follow the upgrade instruction pdf.

There are a BUNCH of files at http://www.mics.msu.su/~brancher/kyocera/ including some Sprint stuff. The actual KWPST (firmware upload tool) is locked and I have not gotten a reply with the password yet. (I used the KWPST and other files from lbocean).

Note several people have fried phones going thru the FW upgrades listed above, so be aware and be careful.

----

Ringtones: There is a CreateSound.exe file. You can take a wav file, stretch it out by about 75% or 82% since the phone speeds them up (think about raising volume too) and save it in as a wav, 11025Hz, 8bit, Mono (possibly PCM). See other posts for more details. (If you want CoolEdit2000 search for ce2kmain.exe BTW).

The CreateSound.exe needs to be run from the command line so you can use the -tring option or it won't showup on the phone.

Some ringtones - http://leggnet.com/ringtones/ http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fu...e&prodid=15613
http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...threadid=17605

The best package was in this post, it includes a bunch of decent (many ST) ringers, plus CreateSound: http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...&postid=261618.

I have not gotten around to Logos and such.

----

The phone runs Palm OS 3.5.3. It looks like you can use PalmDesktop (v4.2.1 on Mac, 4.1.4 on PC is what I got) downloaded from Palmone.com. Kyocera does not have the files anymore (though check for 7135 downloads). I picked up a $7 shipped USB cable from eBay that works on the PC, and use the serial cradle on my Mac with a USB adapter (serial cradle works on PC too).

I lost a couple of my Palm OS 3.0 games that work on my Palm III that this phone is replacing. Looking for a compatible asteroids.

-----

You can dial *288 to connect to your carrier. (there are other *288 codes - search - if you don't get the correct carrier). *288 wouldn't do much for me on Verizon until I activated the phone - except show that the phone could make a call.

-----

A lot of stuff is available on eBay if you need a cradle, charger, car cord, case, etc.

-----

I got the big bulky, durable, somewhat protective Bucket Boss phone holster in black for $5 shipped on eBay.

-----

I have two phones (long story, in credit card dispute now on one) and one phone has MUCH better reception than the other. Don't know why. The 'refurb' was a Sprint phone at some point (it was advertised as Verizon and came setup for Verizon), so I downloaded the Verizon firmware to match for a warm fuzzy feeling.

-----

Looks like this site (pdaphonehome.com) changed names and merged at some point so a some of links are dead and a lot of the files are missing from older posts. There are actually 4 different forums for the 6035 so search carefully (this one, download, 2 in Device FAQ)

The summary is nice, but the 'brancher' link is dead. Is there some where at this late date where one can get the Sprint software updates?

Consistant Sprint Updates were always hard to find. And even more so, many Sprint 6035 owners always had problems with unlocking there phones as well.

The 6035 phone is the same across the board, no matter what Cellular Co. used it. The firmware is what made the internal connection differences.

You could take someone's Sprint phone and use it on Verizons network. The problem lies now, after 2/18/2008 that Verizon (and likely others as well), won't activate the phone do to the "so called" GPS locater requirements.

It just depends upon whom you talk to who's willing as well.

Take care in activating your phone with Sprint, as some time back, they were charging an additional monthly fee for supporting older CDMA phones.

Don't know if they've done away with that garbage, but just an FYI in the meantime.

Just wanted to post that I finally put the QCP-6035 down.

I wanted a color screen and the 7135 I bought a year ago (got one for the wife and me, only I activated just hers at the time) was calling my name.

Still works fine and has good battery life.

See you at the 7135 forums.

How many do you want?

I have at least 1 working, 1 cracked screen and 2 that may or may not work (IIRC one was DOA and the guy said keep it). And the car charger, base stations, batteries, etc?

PM or email your address and I will think about it - the kids want one to use as a PDA, but they have a Palm III (my mom has the Palm IIIxe).
