Kyocera 6035 Firmware
I've been using a 6035 on the Sprint network for about 18 months, started having some PRL-related trouble with the phone, and started on the "Quest for the latest firmware" that it looks like so many have done before.
I have a similar thread started on pdaPhoneHome, but it looks like smartphonesource has more people contributing, so now that it's back up, I'm posting here, too - my apologies if you've read this twice.
Through about 2 weeks of LONG Sprint tech support phone calls and a 4-hour round trip to the only surviving store that's even close to local, I've gotten the phone half updated. Right now I'm at:
SX 1.0.05
KT 1.1.23
PRL 10019
The folks at the Sprint store were able to get me the KT and PRL, but had absolutely no clue what the SX software was and couldn't update it. Fortunately I managed to get a good MSL code from the kind but clueless folks at the Sprint store.
I've seen a mix of postings that either SX 1.1.11 or SX 1.1.12 is the latest version. I've seen some folks that seem to be using SX 1.1.12 with Sprint phones, but the majority of postings indicate that SX 1.1.11 is the latest for Sprint, and that 1.1.12 is for Verizon phones. I have a copy of 1.1.12 and KWPST V3.2 build 7, but got it from a site that only referenced Verizon and only had the KZ software for the phone side.
My questions:
- Can I use SX 1.1.12 with my Sprint phone?
- If I can't, can someone please point me in the direction of SX 1.1.11? I've been all over all the forums, and every link I can find to 1.1.11 is dead, or the passwords no longer work.
- I'm still unable to use "*2" and the ActivateStar2.prc appliacation won't work, as indicated by many on the forums. Some folks have indicated there's a workaround - can someone please help me with this?
Thanks in advance for your help...

If you go to LBOceans site, (do a search ) you will find appropriate softwarea and instalation instructions. The SX software is the Palm side and the KT/KZ software is the phone side. The SX has nothing to do with your service provider.

I couldn't find any KT files, it seems he only has verizon, anybody know where I could score some sprint specific files. I can't get them to update my phone at the sprint store, they say that I will not connect to their system, but I can connect to KWPST just fine, and they gave me the unlock code, so all I need is the files, and I can't find them anywhere. Help!!!!!

I've had my Sprint 6035 since June 2001, and have been a member of this forum since July 2001, and I have never been able to get any of the KT files over the years. Since the Sprint stores have neve been willing to upgrade the palm firmware (SX file), I've always gone to the store, let them upgrade the KT phone firmware and PRL, and then upgraded the SX rom myself using the KWPST. I am currently at SX 1.1.11 and KT 1.1.19, and have been for probably a year, now. I lost *2 customer service functionality with the KT 1.1.19 update. Until a couple of months ago, when it too stop working, I used #2 as an alternate number.
There have been stories about some Sprint store techs not having the correct cables or software (or probably know-how) to flash the 6035. My advice would be to call the stores, ask them if they have the software to do the upgrades, and then bring your phone and cradle or data cable with you if they say yes. Tell them or show them how to do it with the printed out instructions from lbocean's website if necessary!
Good luck!

6035 Firmware
Same here, Sprint tech takes phone to back - comes out 20 minutes later & says all done. Go out to truck, check phone & nothing changed. Call Sprint *2, shows activating - but never updates.

As a follow-up, I decided to see if I could get the latest software versions on my phone from a local Sprint store this past weekend in an effort to get *2 working again. I called customer service, and found out that the latest versions availabe are SX 1.1.11, KT 1.1.23 and PRL 10021 (I'm at SX 1.1.11, KT 1.1.19 and PRL 10015).
I try my own advice, and call a local store. "Yes, we have the updates." I drive there and after waiting for 20 minutes (long line, one service rep working the computers, every other rep working the cash registers), am told there is an hour-and-a-half wait because so many people have left there phones for upgrading. Tomorrow, if I come in when it opens, there will only be a 20 min. wait. Before I leave, I ask one last time to about the software updates, again specifically mentioning the 6035. "Oh, I don't know if we can do it for that phone, it needs special cables. Lemme ask." (I guess the person on the phone wasn't listening when I told them what phone I was using when I called the first time.) Upon confirming what I told him, that it uses the regular cradle or sync cable, with someone else, he takes my phone to the back room. He immediately comes back and says they although they have ALL 3 updates, they won't do it because every time they've tried to upgrade with the latest versions, they've fried someone's 6035. He then tells me, "Besides, the latest versions don't add anything anyway. Sorry to waste your time."
I thanked him and left.

On the lovely note of a fried phone. I recently sold a 6035 and unfortunately the new buyer went right to a Sprint store to activate and they upgraded the software...you guess it...dead phone. it won't power up. The Sprint techs were saying that 3rd party apps do this, I know that the phone was sent with absolutely no apps, hard reset by me.
Is there anything I can tell the buyer? is there any hope for his phone?

Recovery for "fried" phones
I've "fried" my phone on at least two occasions using the JackSprat 3.x beta version to mess with the ROM, and recovered successfuly (FYI, I've since gone back to using the 2.x beta, which without a hitch on the 6035).
Basically, during these times the 6035 was completely dead. No phone capability, no hard reset, soft reset, etc. I have recovered in each instance by reinstalling the ROM (SX software) with the KWPST.
1. Reset the phone while pressing the down button with the flip open. Let go of the reset button first.
2. There should be a blinking square in the upper left corner of the otherwise blank screen.
3. Connect the phone to your computer, start up the KWPST application "Software Download."
4. Switch to the fourth tab, "Smartphone Download."
5. In the first line, you may have to press "Browse" for it to locate the 6035. You may have to reconnect the phone to the computer before it recognizes it.
6. In the "PDA Image" blank, locate the .ROM file (SX 1.1.11 or 1.1.12) by pressing "Browse." I'd attach a copy of SX 1.1.11 from a Sprint phone for you, but it's too big to upload to this forum.
7. Press Start.
8. When the process is done, which may take a while, hard reset the phone by pressing and holding the backlight button while pressing the reset button. Press the up button to answer "yes" when a prompt asks if you want to erase everything comes up.
Your phone should be restored to a bare bones state at this point.
Good luck!

Awww, shucks! :blush2
As much as I've learned on this board over the years, it's my pleasure to give back to someone else.
Hope it helped!

I just stumbled onto this forum and it's very interesting. A friend suggested that I find out about software upgrades for my QCP6035 to see if it improves the poor reception at my house. I sent email to Sprint Customer [I don't] Care to ask if there have been any updgrades. Their immediate response was for me to ask at a local store. Having been a computer support tech in the past and hopefully in the future, that is NOT what I want to hear from a corporate monster such as Sprint. After my sarcastic response they became very helpful and told me how to view what versions are on my phone and that the current versions are SX 1.1.11 and KT 1.1.23 and that I'd be able to get the current software at a local store. They even suggested I call Kyocera Tech Support if I had any other questions. [That's yet another story] The nearest store with a service department is not that close to my house so I looked for locations in downtown Chicago where I work. I stopped there one morning last week and was told that the tech wouldn't be in until 11:30. Went back at lunch time, was told to leave my phone and come back in 45 minutes. Came back and was told "We don't have the software because that phone is so old." [If Micro$oft can continue support for a dead and useless Windows 98, why can't Sprint suport a phone that I've had for a year and a half?] That afternoon I called the store not-so-close to my house and, after several attempt to talk to the tech (he never answered his phone) I finally asked for the store manager and told HIM why I was calling. He transferred me to the tech, who finally answered the call, and I was told that yes they have the software and I could bring my phone in that evening for the upgrade. So I did. Dropped off the phone, was told to come back in 45 minutes. Came back after dinner and got my phone. I checked the version numbers...same as when I left it. The tech had already left for the evening. I asked if the tech mentioned anything about my phone. "Gee, no he didn't." Called back the next day and talked to the manager, explained the situation and he told me he'd check on it and have the tech call me. Not surprisingly, he didn't call. I called back, asked for the manager who in turn transerred me to the tech. He said that he couldn't get my phone to connect with his computer and that he'd written it up on the ticket which was not given to me when I picked up the phone. He said, "Try another store."
Needless to say, my phone has not been upgraded and I have a very high level of frustration with Sprint. My wife recently switched to Verizon and couldn't be happier with the service. I'd switch too but Verizon doesn't support the QCP6035 and I can't afford a new phone.
Sorry for the rant. Or was it a rave?
Kent
