Text messaging OR voice dialing?!?

Verizon is telling me that if I want to enable my 6035 to be able to receive AND send text messages, I have to give up my voice dialing feature. This isn't a plan issue, it's a phone memory issue. Is there any way around this (Software upgrades or whatever)?

Thanks,

I upgraded my phone software last week so that I could send text messages, and although I haven't tried using it, voice dial is still available...

You do NOT have to give up voice dialing to get 2-way text messaging. I currently have Voice Dial and 2-way text mesaging. Find another tech to get your phone working. What version of software do you have on your phone? I have sx-1.0.11 and KZ-1.0.10 To find out what version you are at, enter 111111 (six ones) on your phone, and select version, it will be the first 2 lines. When I first got my phone, it did have to be upgraded to enable 2-way SMS, but I did not have to give up anything...

My Current Ver.

Currently I have ver. 1.0.04 on my phone, from what I gather this is not the latest ver. What is the benifits to loading a new ver of the software? Also is there any downfalls to loading the new software?

Thanks,
Chris

No downfalls except you either have to go through the trouble of finding a Verizon location that has the files and limited know-how to do the upgrade. (It's very easy to do)

Or you can always do it yourself, the instruction are on this board just scan for them. And various people have the files.

Upgrades normally correct small issues or problems that the phone has.

The KZ file deals with the Phone side, it gives the 2 way text and a few other things.

The SX file deals with the Palm side. The newest version SX1.1.12 gives the OpenWave wap Browser, the Newest version of Eudora Web & Mail v2.1 and also corrects a security issue with Palm OS v3.5.1, by upgrading it to v3.5.3

So the upgrades are worth the effort to a certain extent. :conf

Yes you are correct. After making a few visits to the Verizon store, we eventually got both to work. I'm not sure why the voicedial didn't work originally, but it's fixed now. Some of the Verizon techs are pretty bad. Thanks for your help.

Please forgive my ignorance, but how do I know if I have 2-way text messaging? Where do I look on my 6035? I know if I look in the messages folder I can see text messages, but where would I look to be able to send text messages?

Thanks for your help.

JohnA,
Tapp on the "Messages" app icon... if you have "two-way", you will see a button labeled "New" in the bottom righthand corner of the screen.

Markito,

The "new" button is not there. I also notice a difference from earlier posts about the versions. Here's what I have on mine:

OS 3.5.3
SX 1.1.11
KT 1.1.19 (earlier posts had KZ.....)

I bought the unit on-line, activated at home and have never taken it to a Sprint store in the first place, maybe this is the problem? If there are any links to how I can solve the problem myself that would be great (downloads, instructions, etc.)

Any help is much appricaited.

Ooooh, I think it is different with Sprint. Sorry, but I only know Verizon version stuff. I'm sure that Marctronixx will wander by here early tomorrow morning and being the Sprint devotee that he is, he'll let you know all about Sprint (and it's limited) SMS.

Sorry that I couldn't have been of more help. Best of luck to you.

Oh 'nixx!

Unfortunately due to the nature of the beast (SprintPcs) we don't have 2 way SMS text messaging. We have a few fudging ways to do t.

The best option is to use your regular email pgm to send a text message to another phone. Or use something like Gopherking to do it.

The Sprint system isn't set up allow us to do it an easier way. Let me know if you have more questions or want more info.
