Getting the codes from Sprint is your only option (that I am aware of). You need to win the social engineering game with them or else you are out of luck. Don't give up.
Good news, I called them back today and got a nice woman who signed me up, gave me the codes, and said have a good day... The only problem is I forgot the part about canceling, so now I have to call back and do that..
I need more help. When I select programming and enter no code I get to a tabbed screen. The tab says, "Phone Setup" There is no more option in a pull down.
Just remember guys for everyone who is buying Sprint versions and converting.. Sprint IS a PCS company which means they ONLY use 1900 as their carrier wave frequency. Sprint branded 6035's do not have the 800 level digital frequency, so what this means is if you leave a 1900 Verizon network area you'll switch to analog 800. Only the Verizon version is Tri-mode.. meaning 800/1900 digital and 800 analog. You may be getting it cheaper but you'll only get half the network on digital when you travel.

I have been told this is NOT true, that the phones are in fact identical.

The Verizon technician I spoke to disagrees and has a test to prove it. Our local area is 800 MgHz only and a Sprint phone converted to Verizon will in fact connect to *228 (the digital, not analog, connection for over the air programming!)
As for the phones being identical, the only anomaly i have noticed is that after performing a hard reset, the phone reverts back to it's original "Sprint" network settings for some reason. Any theories on that?

This is Sprint FUD. Verizon and Sprint phones are identical. The only difference is the initial settings, hence the different KZ and KT files.
If you have any doubts about this, go into programming mode, where the fact that the phone is Tri-Band is listed right on the screen.
(FUD = Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) also known as incorrect information.
Look at the many discussion threads on this topic, which state exactly this.

I could not agree more forceably with the previous post. Even the SPRINT-branded box says "QCP 6035 Dual Band/Tri Mode". In speaking to Kyocera support (who, by the way, were very helpful), I was advised to simply have the firmware reflashed to remove the SPRINT power-on screen.
Apparently the Verizon store techs also suffer from FUD, as they were walking on eggs when I went into the store to have it flashed after I performed the SC and FSC lobotomy. All they ended up doing was to delete all the data I had stored in the phone (I'd already SYNC'd it in anticipation of this happening), telling me that as a SPRINT phone, it might not work on their network (hey guys, didn't Verizon BUY systems that are primarily PCS vs. Digital Cellular, mandating the need for a TriMode phone????) and then taking my money for a contract renewal.
Don't get me wrong - they did try, to the best of their training, to satisfy the customer. Apparently at $499 (or so), there aren't too many Verizon-branded QCP-6035's around. Now to get to someone there to get the edges smoothed over and then to get my son to leave me alone (he likes to play with my Sharp Zaurus and has his eye on this, too!)
Is there anyone who can provide me with a procedure to change the poweron screen? A Verizon logo would be nice.....
To get the SPC (the unlock code), follow Sprint's instructions to go to their web site to activate your new account. After filling out all the information, including the electronic serial number of your phone, the site will give you a code to type into the phone - don't type it in! Just respond that it didn't work. The site will give you another code - THIS IS THE PHONE'S CURRENT SPC CODE! Type it in and make sure that you can get to the screen with the SPC code (as per the original FAQ post.
Now respond that it didn't work, and you'll be done with Sprint. follow the original instructions to change both the SPC and FPC codes to 000000.
Call Verizon customer service next (not on the 6035 - on another phone. Try calling 888 466-4646 if you have no other CS number.) Tell the rep that you would like to change the phone on your account. They'll take you through the process. Your 6035 IS unlocked (an SPC of 000000 means that it's not locked), if they ask.
After entering the code the first time it worked. The second time it didn't. I read from a user that they just entered no code on the 2nd try, which is what I did. The problem is that it only gives me the single tab for the programing. The original drop down box is gone with the additional features. A warning box comes up when I try to exit and it says that "You have 252 more times to access programming with this code" I am paraphrasing. What did I do wrong?
Is the first code they give you a 5 digit code and the one that I am looking for a 6 digit code? Or is the 2nd 6 digit code I am looking for? Please help. Thanks.
The first code is the one-time code. The second one is the code you need.
The reason you're getting the "252 times left" message is that you have the code set as limited use and the number of uses set to 252.
Use the second code (it should work) and change the code to all 0s, and uncheck the box (I'm doing this from memory) that says that there is a limited number of times you can use the code.
First, thanks to this forum, I have a much cooler phone that the free one that comes with Verizon's new service.
First, I wanted a phone with IR. The only one Verizon has is the Kyocera 6035 (at $350 with a new service agreement).
After searching and asking for a while, I figured I'd buy one through Sprint for $149.99 with a minimal service agreement, cancel the agreement, get the code from the SprintPCS website when I "attempted" to activate the phone, and hook it up to verizon.
What really happened was that I found the phone at BestBuy for $109.99 and I didn't need a service agreement. I went to Sprint and tried to activate a pre-pay agreement, but the 6035 won't work with that (or so I was told). I tried to phone in the activation, but the SprintPCS computer system was slow/no running.
I ended up hanging up and doing it over the web. When I got to the point where I tried to enter the codes, beither "worked", so I just closed the webpage (I have to phone to verify that they didn't sign me up for anything).
I went through information from this forum...
I entered the first code, which didn't get me the "main" button/menu, so I exited and enterd the second code: worked!
I reset the phone number, progframming codes to 000000, etc... according to what previously was done. I also played around a bit, so I may have actually screwed up some other settings - I don't know yet.
I called *228, and it didn't work.
I then called Verizon service, and they asked for the ENS. I gave it, was told to shut off teh phone, restart it, then test it. It didn't work. I was told we would have to manually configure it. He started telling me to press 111111, and the dial on the side... and I interrupted him to tell him I had entered the code and was in (I was so excited to be beating the system, I was beside myself). He didn't seem to care.
Then he told me to make sure my phone number was there, and to change my Home SID to 00041. I did, and the phone works (I can make outgoing calls and receive incoming). My SMS/text messenging doesn't work, though.
Anyway, this morning (not 5 minutes ago) I saw an ad at VerizonWIreless.com for the 6035: $99 (I assume with with a new agreement). Its actually $249 with a $150 mail-in rebate.
Since I've overcome this much, and because of the novelty of the rubber SprintPCS nob on the phone, I think I'll stick with what I have (also, if I switch, I'll have to give back the useless free phone with case/car charger...).
Thanks all. Feel free to email me if you need any settings off my phone - keep in mind I've had it for less than a day, so I'm a novice at using it.
I must say that this forum is pretty good. Good messages, and everyone's pretty much calm.
To continue with my last post...
I left the 6035 for software upgrades at the Verizon corporate store. I had a brief conversation with the tech there about this being a Sprint phone, and what I had to go through. He seemed unreactive, but also like he didn't know and didn't want to show it, or knew and didn't want to show it (whatever that means).
My wife picked up the phone, and the SC was sdowngraded from 1.1.11 to 1.0.11, the KT was the same (and not Verizon's latest KZ), and the PRL is 50022 (the same as before).
I turned the phone on, and the messages menu was shorter byu 1 item. Arrrggghhh!
I was all set to give it back to Sprint and get the $100 Verizon one with a new service.
2 things: The $100 Verizon deal is no longer on the website, and the corporate store didn't know it was there yesterday. The other thing is that when I went into programming, under SMS, and checked the MO-SMS Enabled item, all of a sudden my Messages menu allows me to send SMS, as well as view my inbox and outbox (before it was only inbox). I was told that the earlier version of the Verizon software only supported receiving, and the new one supports sending as well (told by a vVerizon tech over the phone).
I am now confused: Based on the versioning, it doesn't look lile they changed the phone software at all (assuming KT 1.1.19 is for the phone), but the Message menu is consistent with a newer version (unless I already had the newer version...)
I don't know.
In a related, but separate issue, where is the KWPST and latest software (I'm on Verizon's system).
