This should also work for other providers, but I have only verified with Sprint.

When you get your phone, the envelope button will not take you to voice mail. To resolve this, follow these steps.

From the phone menu, press the scroller. Scroll down until you can select Settings. On the settings menu, scroll down until you can select messaging. When you select messaging you will be prompted to open the flip.

When you open the flip, you will find that the Voice Mail #is blank. You need to enter your own cellular phone number in this area.

Once you have done this, you will be fine.
