Phone volume & signal strength

I am a pretty happy new Jam owner. This phone is really amazing. I have only two questions/complaints.

I would like the phone to be louder. The beeps, rings, etc. are all fine. But when I talk on the phone I can't hear the other person that well even with the phone volume on max. I admit that I have some hearing loss, and will actually be getting a hearing aid in the next few weeks. Any ideas for how to raise the phone volume? A Registry tweak perhaps?

I am using Cingular service for the first time, having been a verizon customer previously. With Verizon, I almost always had a strong signal. With Cingular, I almost always have a weak signal (San Diego area). However, in spite of the weak signal, I have never had any problems with phone calls. Is the Jam just not very good at picking up signals, or am I just not used to the weak Cingular signal strength?

I haven't seen anything to force the earpiece volume. Have you tried a headset? The signal may be less than more "standard" cell phones, but I have also found Verizon has the best coverage (I am also in San Diego).

The voice sound on my Jam is not the strongest, that's for sure. Using an earbud helps a little, but it is still only acceptable.

As for the signal strength. I use Tmobile here in San Diego (which uses Cingular's towers) and I get average signal strength. I think that Verizon just has better coverage here.
