I had to replace my Tilt the other day due to Blutetooth-related issues. On the previous one, I had no problem sending and receiving e-mail through two different POP3 accounts (I don't use Outlook e-mail or Blackberry Connect on the Tilt). On the new one, I have no problem receiving, but I can't send (I get an error after the Tilt tries to log on). I believe the problem is related to my mail-provider's use of non-standard port 587 for sending through its SMTP server, and the Tilt has no way I can find of specifying a non-standard port. Somehow I got this to work on the previous Tilt, but I can't remember how. My provider is clueless and AT&T has opened a trouble ticket which they promise to reply on by 12/19. I was hoping someone here could straighten me out sooner. Thanks.

Tilt's email client cannot specify non-standard SMTP port. I also experienced the same thing when my email client change the SMTP to 6180 so I can't send emails.
After contacted w/ AT&T support, they advised to use their SMTP server cmwx.com and I can send email again. The only limitation is that you cannot be on Wifi but on wireless data.
That's what the first tech support person suggested, but I couldn't get that to work either. Can you tell me what your other outgoing settings are? Is the server literally cmwx.com, as opposed to smtp.cmwx.com, or something else? Thanks.
What a pain... As it turns out I was able to use my tilt to send and receive email just fine as long as the settings were downloaded automatically (yahoo / gmail). However for my work email account which I needed to configure manually, it was only able to receive but never send. This was frustrating and at first I just thought it must be a networking issue on my end, however when I finally caved in and got a data plan I was still experiencing the same thing. Like I said... what a pain.
After unsuccessfully looking for a solution in every forum I could find I finally decided to wipe the memory completely and try again from scratch... So starting from stock with all the stock software/bloatware reinstalled I tried configuring my work email again and low and behold it worked!!! Emails were sent and received perfectly!
At the moment I've left all the 3rd party software off my unit, but I'll probably start adding them back one at a time to see if any of them caused the issue, however to the best of my memory the email issue was always a problem even before I started installing all the 3rd party apps.
Yeah, AT&T suggested deleting the offending accounts and re-creating them (using cwmx.com for the outgoing server), and if that didn't work, doing a hard reset on the phone. Fortunately, everything worked fine after the delete/recreate. Go figure.

Windows Mobile 6.1 Hot Fix for Sending POP and IMAP E-mail
Brief Description
This behavior is associated with a feature that was introduced in Windows Mobile 6.1. It provides a way for users to send e-mail through an alternate outbound e-mail server provided by their mobile operator in the event that the default outbound e-mail server becomes inaccessible.
