AT&T Tilt Reception Problems

I have used the HTC TyTNII / Kaiser / AT&T Tilt / 8925 since February of this year and I have loved it until recently. Starting about July I started to notice that my phone started to drop calls. Often I would see full bars on the screen and then when I tried to dial out or send a SMS it would drop to no service. Now I have no service the majority of the time. I have heard some say this is because AT&T introduction of more 3G phones has overwhelmed its UMTS network. I have heard some suggest adjusting the phone settings to GSM as opposed to Auto select but I believe phone sold by AT&T (as opposed to unlocked versions) do not have that option (or I just don’t know where to find it). I know how to find the information in field test mode (*#*#364#*#*). Any suggestions how to improve my reception or switch my Tilt back to the GSM network?

I don't mean to make it sound like I think you're dense, so please don't read this this way.

But you don't mention actually calling tech support or going into an AT&T store. Have you given them a whack at it first?

You can tweak things yourself, but if they haven't had a shot at it, I'd give them one first.

If you have, some details on that might help guide the discussion.

I am sorry I did not mention talking to AT&T tech support. I did talk to them first. Unfortunately their only suggestion was to buy a new phone.

There's a bad answer, huh? Sheesh.

I'd find your local AT&T store and bring the phone in. If you purchased a Tilt from them and it's not working, unless you've had it over a year it's under warranty and they should replace it.

It sounds as if your radio died to me, and you shouldn't need to buy a new phone when it's a hardware issue that should be fixed by the warranty.

Unfortunately I bought the phone refurbished. The support tech I talked to said that a refurbished phone only had a 30 day warranty. I don’t remember them telling me anything about that when I bought it.

I'd still take it to the store, let them tell you about that, then complain about the notification.

All they can say is "no," right?
