Update: It looks like the link is screwed up and it Downloads an older ROM. I just checked XDA-developers to see if they were aware of the update and they are. They have a thread over there that states the porblem and that HTC is aware that the link is wrong and will be fixing it soon. So, stay tuned.
I saw the download with my own eyes, but in between seeing it and clicking through to the actual download, the update has disappeared! I see no evidence of the 6.1 ROM now.
Following the path from HTC - Touch Phone, PDA Phone, Smartphone, Mobile Computer, select country, select support, select device, select software download. This page has info on windows 6.1, but select the actual download button and it is back to the 1.62.502.0 (wm6) version. Anyone else see this?
This link brings you to the WM 6.1 upgrade page: HTC WM 6.1
But if you try to download it, you get the old 6.0 ROM.
Update: The link no longer brings you to the 6.1 Update page. It looks like they took it down completely and it goes to the old 6.0 ROM update page. Rumor now has it that it will be released 8/26.
I can't think of a good reason to waste my time with it. I already have a good 6.1 ROM on my Tilt, and there are several more that I want to try.
Unless I start seeing reports of excellent performance wit the new stock ROM, I'll just stick to the cooked ROMs.
I've tried several hard resets and attempted to cancel the ATT customization. Perhaps I am not triggering the soft reset at the right moment, because after the reset it starts from the initial setup again.
I've tried to soft reset at the prompt before the bloatware installation and at the initial start of the bloatware installation, but it still restarts from scratch and proceeds with the installation.
I haven't tried to install it so I can't say for certain... But I have read that if you see the "instaling customizations in 3 seconds" (or whatever it says) then it is too late. You have to reset before that screen comes up...
