Various problems with TyTN II / Sync / Email connection ...HELP!

Hi there!

I have been using my TyTN II for more than 06 months now. More than a month ago I decided to upgrade the ROM which I downloaded from HTC website; but since then I have been using the soft-rest about 10 times a day. The device simply hangs for no apparent reason even though I am not running any software…PLEASE your help on the following is highly appreciated:

1. Is there a new ROM upgrade I can install to simply help speed performance, currently have the following:

ROM 1.81.415.4 WWE

ROM DATE 10/29/07

RADIO VERSION 1.27.15.32

PROTOCOL VERSION 22.51.88.13H

2. Sync Center (I have Vista with Outlook 2007) connects without any problem with my device but I am not able to sync all my contacts...it simply shows the green bar on the Sync Center that is processing but it never finishes...I thought it needed more time so I once left my phone attached by USB to the PC for more than 06 hours but still the green bar was only 20% done. I have more than 2000 contacts in my outlook; but on the Tytn it only recognize about 30% of my total contacts. Mind you I am sure the number of contacts is not the issue because I was able to sync when I first bought the device.

3. Sometimes I can't send/receive emails using my Pop3 account. When I click send/receive nothing happens ...I even found out that the device does not establish a GPRS session. I can't explain why (all my configuration are correct) I tried using soft-reset but still the same problems persists. Then when I leave the device for a couple of hours and try it again...it works! It couldn't be signal problem because my other device (nokia) works without any problem.

4. Sometimes the on/off switch does not work...I simply can't turn the device on until I do a soft-reset.

Would love to hear your comments on this.

Do you think it is a hardware issue or simply a hard rest will solve these problems? Thanks!

First, check for corruption of your mail file using scanpst.exe. You'll find it in the directory where you've installed MS Office (typically \program files\microsoft office\office 12). Sync issues are often due to corruption in the mail file, and when you've 2000 contacts that are syncing unsuccessfully, that's a distinct possibility.

Second, 2000 contacts is a whole lot for WM. Issues have been reported with syncing 1000 or more on a wide number of different phones, and performance when trying to get to a specific contact has been notably bad. Do you really need all 2000? Could you create an "Old Contacts" folder and move some of them there (if you tell outlook this is an address book, you won't lose functionality on the desktop)? Then you can reduce the number of contacts that are being synced and avoid those issues.

Third, it would help to know what memory is available for storage and programs. Low memory can create interesting issues. Also - are you using either HTC's or someone else's application to really close applications, or are they just being minimized? Leave enough apps open and your phone will eventually go nuts.

Fourth, the POP issues often relate to not having the e-mail account set to use the right data service. For example, if I don't go into the options for my GMail account and tell the phone to use "AT&T Medianet" instead of "The Internet," it won't launch the connection properly.

The on/off switch not working is, to me, a sign that you've got memory issues or a misbehaving application. What apps do you have installed?

Hope some of that helps.

I have about 2700 contacts in my Tilt. I have the latest ROM 1.62.502.0 per the HTC website. I don't know where you got "ROM 1.81.415.4 WWE" came from.

I have had no issues except for Notes not syncing properly unless I set my Outlook 2002 to "offline". All other items sync correctly. I am running Win XP and not Vista - which apparently has a zillion issues with it.

The ROM he's running is an unofficial release as yet. It's rumored that this is set for general release this month, but that is just a rumor. It's been floating around a while, though, and has been the basis for a number of cooked ROMs over at XDA-Dev.

Well, if this is the case, then I'm not upgrading since it looks like it doesn't work at the moment....
