Customization of my new 8525

Lovin' the new smartphone... just a few ideas / questions about how much more I can tweak it to suit my needs:

1.) The PTT button. I read somewhere online that it can be mapped to perform some other function - is that only do-able with the new firmware upgrade (that otherwise seems not all that impressive)? I'd like to map this button to LOCK the device

2.) I bought the phone from cingular, but DONT have their data package and use this phone from wi-fi access points only ...When Im in my home office (almost always) I would like to be able to set my outlook email client (on pda) to check email every 1 minute - and outlook can accommodate that -- problem is, when I LEAVE my home office / home and go outside the range of the wi-fi access, it automatically dials into or access the cingular gprs - which I dont want to have to pay .01 per kb for. Does anyone know of a way I can DISABLE gprs (but still - when out and in desparate need, re-enable, the gprs capability of the phone? So it DOES NOT reach out to cingulars gprs and the outllook send/receives just fail until Im back within wi-fi range?

3.) Im currently trying out (and liking) an application named SPB phone suite that adds some really useful features/capabilities to the TODAY screen... are there better ones out there? If not I'll purchase this one. Some of these features should be native to the O/S though.

You need Sleuth255's PTTFix. Google for it. It doesn't work on the newest ROM yet.

Remove the data connection settings and it won't be able to connect to gprs.

I'm using Phone Suite as well and really like it. Phone Alarm is another one many people like. It's a bit more advanced though.

For the connection, you could just delete any one of the settings to disable. This way it can be something you can easily remember to put back in case you need it. I.E. blank the password, it's CINGULAR1 and documented on the AT&T/Cingular web site, as well as the other settings, just choose one.
