Good news / Bad news
The GOOD news is you can unlock your 8525 in all likelyhood. It's a bit of a process, requiring going backwards with your phone firmware, then taking it back to the latest.
BUT, the BAD news is no matter what you do, that phone will not work on Sprint. The Sprint network is only one of two networks (so far as I understand it) that operate on it's own dedicated frequency. As a result, Cingular phones won't work on Sprint's network, or vice versa.
I recently switched from Sprint to Cingular, when I moved and I managed to find one of the only "dead zones" in Sprint's normally excellent network. Having purchased a PPC-6700 a year prior, I still had a year left on my 2 year agreement. I bought that plan out, switched to Cingular and my 8525, and have been quite happy since. Though be aware Cingular's data plans are more, so you'll pay more than double if you don't talk the salesperson in to getting you a better rate.
Sorry it's not better news, but I hope this helps!!!
