Yep - running WM6 on my 8525 and boy is it a much better experience than WM5. Device is quite peppy and stable even with a cooked ROM.

So it begs the million dollar questions...

1) What version are you running?

2) Where can others find it?

3) Are there any cavats you can think of? Voice Dialing doesn't work, etc?

Running a cooked WM6...specifically the .3 version of XDA-Live (pre-release)

Check the Hermes wiki over at xda-developers for a location near you

Everything I need works just dandy and have not had any 3rd party app issues either. This new release is very nice and has embedded the ability to auto install items from particular locations on your Micro-SD card after Hard reset...much easier when you find yourself flashing a lot to reload all your programs, etc...

Check out the pre-release post on the xda-developers forum for more info and find other WM6 builds...there are alt least 3 or 4 now.

Enjoy - John

Good news is that there will be an OFFICIAL WM6 upgrade for the 8525 although I run the Dark 1.2 rom of WM6 on my device with working Blackberry Connect client and it's super. WM6 is like having a 8cyl engine vs a 4.

Care to share your source? And is there a date for the upgrade to be available yet?

I don't know of any dates for the "official" release. You can look at the unofficial alternaitves at xda-developers.com.

The glossy bars look very good, here you have solid black glossy top and bottoms bars with dialpad with 3g video

I really like the speed and look of WM6 on my 8525. (I'm running CUSTELS 'Black' from xda-developers).
However there's one issue I'm having difficulty resolving; When I was on WM5 I could use the reg edit (Also a setting in PIE+) to make secure sites such as Wells Fargo think I was running IE 6.0 and so allowing online banking.
I have tried just about everything and can't get it to work.

Just finished loading 2.15 from the HTC/Cingular site and I'm thinking about making the leap to WM6 (2.5) next week. Has anybody used WM6 with Cingular? How about using Good Messaging?

The Kyocera 7135 was great. The XV6600 was even better. So far the 8525 is pretty damn cool...
But I wish for the features of an 8525 with a 3.5" screen, that would be awesome.

I'm currently running Custel 2.5 and it works great with Cingular. If you have the need to use Good, you'll need to make sure the ROM you load is hex-edited for BlackBerry and Good compatibility as both of those programs check the version number.

I don't use either of those so I can't comment on how well it works but based on the experience of others it seems to work.

I flashed my 8525 with Black Shadow and it hosed my data connection.
I put back WM5 and got all the settings back, and I can get all the connection information BUT the password from the Network Management applet. (Settings/Connections/Advanced)
How can I get the password - it just shows as asterisks?

Walt - Ironically enough, I just went to WM6 (one of the Black loads noted as 3.0.1 on the xda site) last evening. I lost my data connection settings as well, but as a Cingular customer, you can go to the 8525 support page and find the settings to get your data connection going again. I did that under black last night, and IE worked super.

My main reason for switching was Windows Media Player. After upgrading to the most recent Official ROM for the 8525, I'd loose my Library of music regularly. I'd get in the car and try and stream music to my BT car deck, and suddenly my entire list of music on my memory stick was missing. I found I could work around that by opening a song manually in File Explorer, and WMP would play through the entire album. But after several memory card formats attempting to get the library working correctly, I went to black last night, installed the seperate voice dial program, reprogrammed my voice dials, and even added running some programs through voice commands.

I need to put a few more songs on the memory card (might use my external memory card reader to do so, rather than drag and drop with Activesync) and make sure the library keeps working... but I'm loving WM6 so far!

Thanks merkman!
Just on a guess, I used the phone number as a password and it worked!

To make things easier next time, here is a cab file to install your data connection settings after flashing to a new non-Cingular ROM.

It installs My ISP as the default but also includes MEdia Net. Credit goes to wpbear for building the cab file. I'm just sharing it here to help others

Hope this helps.

URPREY beat me to posting of the connection fix, good job.

I'm running Windows Mobile 6 Elf Edition V2.1 and I LOVE it. Follow the link and follow ALL the directions in order.

Another MUST have link for 8525 owners is HTC Hermes at xda-developers.com. Either through the links on the wiki or going to the forum, you will find whatever you might be looking for.

I crossed over from Sprint as a 6700 owner. I have many links to good sources of information on it, but never found a "one stop shop" like you have for the 8525 on xda-developers. The first link I posted to guide the install of that specific ROM, as well as how to flash/install using only your SD card, are all found on the wiki, with MUCH more.

merkman: I have the same Sony head unit you do, except mine doesn't have Bluetooth. 2 questions: How is the mic for calling? I read it wasn't all that great. And my unit has two colors you can select from, green (or maybe blue, can't remember) and red, and I like red. Does your unit have the option to select a different (red) color?
