Question for all the 85xx/8525 experts.....

Got my 8525 last week and so far I am happy with the unit. I have configured and tried every possible funtions and all worked as expected. Those include USB modem for PC, blutooth modem for PC and Mac, Wi-Fi, and etc. One question that I have is about the Wi-Fi, is there a way to configure the 8525 to automatically using the Wi-Fi connection for internet if it is available, and swith to wireless broadband if the Wi-Fi is not available? Right now, I have to manually change to "Settings/Connection" to have 8525 using either connections....... Maybe I am asking too much for what the unit can do

Thanks in advance.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no device that will do what you ask. Would be nice, though!

I am looking for the same capability. Can't believe this is not built in, some kind of "order of preferred networks": if WiFi is available, use it, if not available, use GPRS.

Start / Settings / Connections / Connections / Advanced / Select Networks seems really close, but not quite. In fact so close makes me wonder if I am missing something. Anyone else had any luck with this?

Mine DOES do this (uses wi-fi by default, first, then, if no wi-fi, goes to GPRS)... my issue is I'd like to PREVENT it from using GPRS by default and if no wi-fi, just Not have any data connection at all -- so just the phone capability works.

Note that I'd still like the ability to turn to GPRS to grab or send a quick email when away from wi-fi occassionally though.

Update: Just had the idea of how to PREVENT GPRS use (but still make it easy to re-enable it).

All I did was under my connections settings, I modified the GPRS settings so that what was entered as wap.cingular.com (or something like that) is now NOwap.cingular.com -- so all attempts at connecting via GPRS fails... then when Im back in wi-fi range, it defaults to wi-fi.

when Im out I'll try to remember to disable wi-fi and refrain from using email/web (data svcs.) but at least now, if I forget for some reason, I wont owe my lifes savings to cingular.
