Seems like its time for a tips and tricks thread. I have been saving and editing these posts so far for a start. I have not necessarily tried each and every one of these, but they all come from threads in this forum. In most (hopefully all) cases I have provided credit to the original poster, but I am bound to have gotten that wrong now and then, so my apologies in advance.
For noobs, you will need a registry editor to perform many of the tricks that follow. If you dont have one, you can get a free one
here, or you can buy one
herethere are plenty of other ones out there; everybody has their favorite and will probably provide links to those as well in the following posts. Here is a link to HobbesIsReal's incredibly informative and thorough article on
how to edit your registry--if you have any questions he has answered them--check it out.
All of the reg edits, tweaks and hacks posted here have their own corresponding thread, so if you have any questions about implementing a particular hack, edit or tweak, search for the thread on point; DONT post your question here. In most cases (hopefully all) I have tried to provide a link to the thread in question. Try to use this thread just for posting tips and tricks and keep the commentary to the appropriate thread.
Some of these tips and tricks may cease to work with future updates, or may just not work right now. If you post or PM me with problems I will try and edit out known bad tips from this initial postthe Mod(s) (maybe someday 8notime will get some help) are sure to monitor the traffic as well and fix future problems.
Rememberany changes or tweaks you make could cause problems down the road--anywhere from vague stability issues to bricking your phone. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Shorten time/ number of rings to answer
Credit to Elkay
Thread
Here is a tip from the 6700 forum that works on the Touch (credit to Elkay in the 6700 forum). You may have noticed that when someone calls you it may take several rings on their end before the Touch begins to ring. The reason for this delay is the slot cycle index, or how often your Touch polls the towers for an incoming call. Default appears to be about 5 secondsway to long. Of course, as always, there is a compromise to be madethe more often it polls the tower, the more power it uses. Anyway here is the hack:
To do this, you will need your MSL number, which only Sprint (or your provider) can provide you.
1) Open up the phone app and dial ##778# (PST).
2) You will be asked to enter your MSL. Enter it, and you will be brought into the provisioning of your phone.
3) From the top left, select Modem Settings. On this page, your Slot Cycle Index (SCI) is how often your phone polls the tower for incoming calls, etc. This value is 1.28 seconds multiplied by 2 (i.e 0=1.28 secs, 1=2.56secs) with 0 fastest, 7 slowest. The default is 2, but lowering it to 1 hasn't noticeably affected my battery life, and roughly 2.5 second (SCI 1) response time is far more reasonable than roughly 5 seconds (SCI 2).
Force EV-DO/1X, quicker ring response
Same
thread
Here is another tip from the same 6700 post by Elkay.
1) Follow steps 1 through 3 in the Shorten time/ number of rings to answer tip:
Also on this page is your preferred operation mode. The Default is Automatic, which is the best available mode (EV that will roll back to 1X when EV is unavailable). There are times when you might be in a fringe area and your mode may cycle frequently and this can seriously drain your battery. Setting this to HDR will force EV-DO only if you demand an EV-DO connection. Changing this setting to CDMA Only will force the phone to ignore an EV-DO tower and maintain only a 1xRTT connection.

There are 2 files in \windows that you need to edit.
Check out the thread below, post #4 for details on how to do this:

I (8notime) ran into the same issue. This is how I resolved it:
1.) I removed the read only attribute from \windows\ql_skin_p & from \windows\ql_skin_l (one is for portrait, the other for landscape).
2.) I edited the path in these for WLS to reflect the actual patch for LiveSearch.exe. There are 1 too many Live Search's in the path name. Also the landscape file had a space in LiveSearch.exe that didn't belong there.
3.) I went into settings, today, items, and then clicked ok, without changing anything.
The screen refreshed & now the button works.

Yo man, just install
this file. It is a program that allows you to customize your HTC home screen. Nothing will change if you don't want, but it gives you the option to makes your icons color, change your clock, and a bunch of other really cool stuff. PLUS, you can make your weather thing point to ANY city. I live in a small city in Florida, and it worked PERFECTLY for mine. It is a really cool program.
1.) Just go to your start menu/setting/today.
2.) go to the items tab
3.) uncheck the htc home(this is just while installing this program)
4.) go to that link and install the file
5.) go back to settings and turn HTC Home back on for the today screen
6.) customize your today screen with this new program
7.) there is a weather tab under the setting for this program and you just add a custom city. And you are DONE!

If you launch PIE from the cube, it always goes to the Sprint webpage.
To fix this, you have to go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/HTC/Biotouch/APLauncher
change the path to \Windows\pie.lnk

First check
this post by Snotime.
Then here is a more detailed version by tbhausen:
More explanation of how I got this to work:
1.) Be sure PC Win Explorer is set to show hidden files on all folders
2.) Download and install SOTI Pocket Controller Pro (PCP)
3.) Connect phone with USB cable
4.) Start PCP and connect to phone
5.) On your PC, start file manager in PCP
6.) Browse to windows directory on phone
7.) Right-click on both xml files referenced earlier in this thread, uncheck "read only" attribute, press "apply" and "close" (or "done" or whatever...)
8.) Copy 8notime's edited pair of xml files into windows directory on phone (overwrite warning will be displayed)
9.) Close PCP file manager and disconnect phone from PCP using pull-down menu
10.) Disconnect phone from USB cable
11.) Soft reset phone
12.) Navigate to start, settings, today, items, OK
13.) Soft reset phone again
14.) Test (this WILL work if I haven't left anything out)
Note: I (tbhausen) couldn't get Total Commander to change the "read only" attribute, either.

Did everyone know that this existed? I was shocked when I accidentally swiped the screen left or right on the messaging screen? It's nice (switches between messaging accounts).

Yes you can also use the D pad and press to the right or left.

You can do it within emails and text messages too.

PocketPC Tweaks author Majed Aly
MS Voice Command volume during announcing a call is very low:
In order to increase the volume , navigate to HKCU\Control Pannel\SoundCategories\VoiceCommand1
Then change the value of AttenuationCategory from 4 to 1
Sound of the voice command will be even higher than the ringing tone.
You can also change the value of InitVol to 40.

Change digital clock to analog
Thread
Credit to 8notime
By default, it's set to digital. To change it to analog you need to edit the following registry value:
HKLU/Software/Microsoft/Shell
(to change to analog)
Change AnalogClock from a 0 to a 1
(to change to digital)
Change AnalogClock from a 1 to a 0
then do a soft reset.

I also figured out that if you hold down on the analog or digital clock on the top right it gives you a choice of Analog or Digital.
