My next Phone is the Palm Pre.

Looks to me like Palm got their act right this time. Check the specs and youtube

Things that would make me consider it

1 If it had at least 640x480 resolution

2 If it had better battery life than the HTC Windows mobile phones (not a challenge)

3 If it did a better job of handling MULTIPLE exchange accounts - IMAP is not nearly the same as exchange active sync. I'd love a phone that could have full exchange sync with multiple e-mail accounts - not sure why this is such a challenge.

4. If it has a better BT stack than the HTC Windows mobile phones (not a challenge there either)

I had the Diamond - the battery life on it was so miserable I went back to my Touch - but I'm always looking for something better.

Why is this thread in the HTC Touch forum?

I would imagine because they have an HTC and are considering an alternative unit. I actually like threads like this in specific handheld forums since they get responses from people who have similar units. I really get frustrated when someone moves something like this to a general discussion forum. This thread is probably designed to foster a debate over the merits of a specific HTC phone over a specific alternative phone.

Of course the original poster will be able to explain why they posted here - but this is my guess as to why.

I was debating on posting a similar thread, just because I have a Touch right now, but got very excited about the Pre after seeing all the videos on it. I didn't do so however because I figured someone would tell me that this topic would not belong into this forum.

Either way, I have had my touch close to a year and a half. I am not the kind of person that buys a phone and just leaves it the way it is, I mod mine pretty extensively. I also use this phone as my business phone and so far it has served me well and has proven to be fairly reliable, with only a few lock ups in between, the phone slowing down to a crawl for no reason at all, and a few other little quirks. Seeing that the Touch was my first PDA phone, or Pocket PC, whatever you want to call it, I was initially blown away by just how much you can do with this thing, and how much in the way of modification was possible. So of course my Touch has Manila 2d installed, the M2D customizer and tons of apps. However, after seeing the Pre, and seeing how clean and smooth and thoughtful everything was organized, I got my eyes opened as to why people call Windows Mobile clunky....because it is. All that "make it look pretty" stuff is just that, you smear make up over a pimple, underneath it all lies just clunky old WM. From what I have seen, WM 6.5 is basically more of the same, just a bit prettier, and who knows when WM7 will come out, and how it will look. For now, I am waiting on the Pre to be released, and unless the reviews come back abysmal, I will probably switch camps and give the Pre and the new webOS a try!

The argument can be made that this is mis-posted but the faithful Touch owner posting has dramatically slowed down as many have moved on to the Pro. So I hope this is not Too offensive for you. I love my Touch with M2D but by Aug my two years will be up and I am looking for the next great phone. The Pre is very interesting and I love the screen and placement of the keyboard. If it works as advertised it may be a winner. Just letting others know whats coming up.

Still looking at the Touch HD that looks interesting also
