Anybody in the Seattle area having issues connecting to Gmail via Sprint Mobile Email? Tech support claims there's an area outage, but every other data connection for me works.

I think they are confused. They were definitely having issues with text messages over the past few weeks, which is probably what the tech thought you were talking about. Difficult to believe, but I wouldn't be surprised.
