i updated my sprint touch with the RevA GPS firmware. I can no longer tether for free like i used to.
I could swear i've seen this topic addressed here but after a dozen different searches i can't find any info.
Well, I really HATE that Sprint, VZW and AT&T charge extra for tethering. They really shouldn't. European telcos do not charge extra for tethering. T-Mobile is a German company. And guess what? TMo does not charge extra for tethering here in USA either. They recently bumped their data prices, but they include textng/IM with the data packages too. This ala carte pricing the other US telcos keep claiming the right to charge really makes me MAD.
I don't have Sprint but the threads are here. I know it involves registry hacks to delete the ForceConnection=PAM entry and deleting a icext.dll value somewhere but you might just try PDANet if you get tired of searching.
I don't normally condone hacking but the sad fact is that as far as I understand things, Sprint doesn't een offer tethering on it's Everything plans anyway so you don't have much choice but to go either registry hacks or third-party solutions like pdaNet.

Uhhh; D'ya think maybe that's 'cause they don't have G3 in the States? I hardly think that anyone could get away with charging to tether Edge!

Speeds and feeds shouldn't make any difference. Actually T-Mo does have 3G here now (at least in theory anyway) and they still do not charge for tethering. I think European tariffs prohibit it so they can't, at least not there. And they have 3G there also. I really need to do some research on just what the European mandates provide in this regard, because we need to get a grass-roots lobbying effort going to petition the FCC to enact regulations to force the wireless telcos to stop this ala carte surcharging for services like tethering gps usage and texting/IM.

I could be wrong but i don't think pdanet is compatible with WM6.1. If it was i'd probably just get it and be done with the whole thing.
the post I stumbled upon noted a registry hack and that's what i'm interested in.
Sprint Touch doesn't have Wi-Fi. Don't I need wi-fi for WMWiFiRouter?
In addition to WiFi, WMWiFiRouter also allows you to connect via USB or bluetooth as well. I have no idea why they don't advertise this in their marketing, but there's more info in the documentation:
