You can use google maps, but you won't have that little voice telling you where to go, and won't have the live "3d" moving map that (in my case) Sprint Navigation provides. All Google maps will do is tell you where you are and map out a good route for you.
You can buy commercially available navigation programs as far as I know that should work with the built in gps, but I haven't bothered since mine works so well right out of the box.
