i have a touch with alltel

who recommends the update?
what are the pros for updating?
what are the cons for updating?
is it worth it?

I am not sure what Alltel gives you with the 6.1 update, but us Sprint users surely benefited from it.

Rev. A speeds
GPS
Sprint Navigation
Threaded text messaging

That's the biggest pluses. I'd do it just to have the newest operating system. It's not common for a cell provider to give something away for free!

those are the things i noticed also but can i use any mapiing program or just the alltel navigation

You can use google maps, but you won't have that little voice telling you where to go, and won't have the live "3d" moving map that (in my case) Sprint Navigation provides. All Google maps will do is tell you where you are and map out a good route for you.

You can buy commercially available navigation programs as far as I know that should work with the built in gps, but I haven't bothered since mine works so well right out of the box.

Did you get the newest version of Google Maps? Mine didn't used to work either with the location thing, but the newest version does.

The most current version that you just downloaded. In Google Maps, when you click on "Menu" have you tried just clicking on GPS to see if that works?

Also, although you have a Alltel Touch, the GPS fixed in another thread here in the forum might work for you too.

Sucks that Alltel wants so much money a month for GPS.... gotta love that Sprint Simply Everything Plan for 99.99 a month!

yea you would think since i have every thing else that would be free but no they gotta be the biggest network. i mean who cares about features
