There's no downside. First of all, the DNS addresses you will be switching to are still Sprint DNS servers that other sprint users have been assigned by default. It seems that different users get assigned different servers and if you're unlucky enough to be stuck with a non-working server this gives you a way to over-ride what Sprint has stuck you with. Secondly, what I describe doesn't modify the original connection parameters, it just creates a new connection with different settings. Switching back to your original settings is as simple as selecting "sprint pcs" from a list (described in greater detail in the instructions).
