I received my Touch Pro a few months ago (June?), and immediately flashed the rom to the Verizon version with the unlocked GPS. It had an app called Visual Voice Mail 1.1.7.7, and for a while it worked more or less ok.
It stopped working for a while, and I went back to the old way of using Voice Mail.
I tried to use it again today, and a Yes/No Box popped up that said "This number is not provisioned for Visual Voice Mail. Would you like to subscribe?"
I called Verison to see what was up with this. The boneheads I spoke to told me that Visual Voice Mail is $2.99 a month AND that its NOT AVAILABLE on a Touch Pro (but strangely, it IS available on a Touch Pro 2).
I told them I used to have it and it worked fine. They either didn't believe me, or thought I was talking about something else.
Does anyone use Visual Voice Mail with Verizon on a Touch Pro? How do you do it? What does it cost?
$2.99 / month is correct and it is available on touch pro. You should be able to activate it on the phone without ever speaking to a clueless verizon employee.
Clicking the "Yes" button to the "This number is not provisioned for Visual Voice Mail. Would you like to susbscribe?" Launches VVM browser and asks me if I want to subscribe for $2.99 a month. Clicking Subscribe takes me to a page telling me terms and conditions. Clickin Accept takes me to a page that says "The system was unable to process your order... call customer service, bla bla bla."
This is exactly the sort of crap that makes me loath Verizon. Man, I really thought they finally had their s*@t together with this new ROM and the unlocked GPS. But with this stunt, it looks to me like they are still a bunch of clueless idiots.
It should NOT be $2.99 a month. It should be FREE (included in their exorbitant monthly fees for everything else). The constant nickle-and-diming from this company makes me sick.
There is no reason why it shouldn't work on a TouchPro if it works on a TouchPro2. The woman from tech support was QUITE ADAMANT that it is not "enabled" on a TouchPro, but it is on a TouchPro2.
I can't imagine a technical reason why it would work on a TouchPro2 and not a TouchPro - the hardware and software on those phones is practically identical. My guess is the move is simply more games from the f$%# ups running Verizon to get people to upgrade phones pointlessly.
Once again, I am considering firing Verizon over this. That Palm Pre from Sprint is starting to look awfully attractive.

I would just suggested try doing it the phone again. If I recall correctly, it didn't work the first couple times I tried either. You could also try calling Verizon again, playing customer service roulette until you get a CSR that knows what he or she is talking about. Verizon definately does support Visual Voice Mail on the Touch Pro. It is possible that they don't offer the feature in your geographical area, but if you have EVDO and unlimited data plan there, I doubt that's the case.
Yes, I am using visual voice mail on my touch pro. The CSR's you talked to evidently don't know that it was added with the new ROM update. You could insist they read the README file in the zip file for the update:
Welcome to the XV-6850 Software Upgrade Utility. This program will take you through the installation of the software update.
Upgrade Process Compatible OS: Windows 2000, Windows XP 32-bits, Windows XP 64-bits, Windows Vista 32-bits and Windows Vista 64-bits
Some of the primary enhancements with this upgrade are:
• Added Visual Voicemail support.
• Added EVRC B capability
• Added Standalone GPS Capability.
Evidently, however, they haven't updated the list of supported devices on the web site at
Cool link to Verizon's site. However, the screen shots are significantly different from the version I have on my phone currently. I'm using Visual Voice Mail 1.1.7.7. What version do you have? Do the screen shots on the site you sent match the "look and feel" on your version?
I don't know how you wound up with that version, but that is probably you're problem. Where did you get that ROM? The official version gives you v.1.1.9.0. Did you flash one of the preliminary versions that were floating around a week or two before the official one happened towards the end of the month? Sorry that I didn't catch the difference on the version numbers sooner.
The screen shots on that page are not the Windows Mobile version, which looks significantly different.
No, I used the official ROM from Verizon. No hacker ROMs, not beta Roms or anything like that.
Granted, I was one of the first people to download the rom and install it. It was just a random timing thing. I got my phone and a day later the new ROM was available.
Ok, so I think we have established I have slightly out of date VVM software. Do you (or anyone) have a .cab to the most recent VVM software?
