I've had the Touch Pro for awhile. No problems. Then all of a sudden when I turn it off it will NOT turn back on without a soft reset. This is a MAJOR problem because I miss calls and appointments. The battery is fully charged. I can't figure out if it's a power issue, a memory issue (shouldn't be, I have 139 mb free) or what. It's not the device either...this is the 2nd one and it's happened on both of them. Could it be some rougue application I have installed? I have a lot of stuff on it for sure. Can anyone HELP and has anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks.
the fact you have a lot of 3rd party apps makes this troubleshooting difficult.
if its happened the same way over TWO separate units, then it does seem its a program you have installed.
are you just doing a restore when you swap phones or did you do a manual reinstall? if the former, you could have very well installed the issue onto the replacement unit.
also if you have an unofficial 3rd party ROM installed that could also cause issues...
if you battery is loose in the compartment then that could also cause issues.
so it could be:
a defective refurb
or
a rogue application
or
loose battery in the compartment
im about to sound like a broken record, but i would do a hard reset.. this is the ONLY way to gauge reliably if its a phone or software issue. if you do decide a reset, dont install anything.. just use the phone normally and see if it happens. if it does not cause any issues then you know its a software thing... if it still behaves poorly, then its a physical phone issue and should be replaced...

I did a hard reset and with no restoration the problem goes away. I did a Sprite restore and of course the problem returned. Then I popped the 8GB card I'm using and at least this time the problem went away. So the problem is either software or a power issue loading all the stuff on the card. I'm going to try a 4 gig card and see if that matters, if not then I'll try deleting stuff from the card and see if that works. What a PAIN.
I wouldn't bother with the SD card; it's not that. It's likely one of your programs or even more likely, you've corrupted the OS. I'm guessing the latter as you said that the phone was working good for some time before this issue arose. I would do a hard reset and reinstall everything manually (don't use the Sprite Backup you made; the problem will only return). When you're doing your rebuild, try to see if the programs you like have any newer versions that may have remedied some of the problems you're trying to avoid.
If you're doing a rebuild anyway, you might want to try and throw a new ROM on there to work off of and see if WinMo 6.5 runs without the problems your having (if you haven't tried that already). Here's a link how to throw on a new ROM, just in case: Flashing for Raphael CDMA aka Herman - xda-developers
Good luck!

I'm trying to avoid the manual reinstall solution because I have SO many apps installed, but it's starting to look like I'll have to do it. I used to mess with roms but have decided against it from now on. I've become more conservative, less of a risk taker. I've never bricked a device and don't want to start now, and I prefer to at least have the possibility of support and warantee with the supported roms (this applies to many devices). Thanks!
I hear you in regards to not wanting to put a new ROM on. I only did the ROM on my 6700 when WinMo 6.1 came out so that I could enable the GPS function. I didn't really see the need to bother with the Touch Pro to move up to 6.5 as it doesn't really offer any huge changes. But my phone was starting to get a little twichy too and I knew that a rebuild was inevitable. I finally did the upgrade to the EnergyRom (comes with tonnes of programs pre-installed) and I'm glad I did. It runs way faster, has most of the programs I use already installed, and it doesn't take as many steps to upgrade as the 6700 was. Your concerns of bricking your phone are very unlikely. And if you needed to warranty your phone, they still have the original ROMs available to reinstall.
Anyway, I was thinking that since the combination of programs that you use are killing your phone (as it's happened to your previous phone as well as this one), you might try the new OS and see if that prevents the problem from coming back. And again, you're going to have to rebuild your phone from scratch anyway, so you might as well.
Good luck!

well the only support you will get is from here! the local cellular store wont be able to do anything other than a hard reset or a swap. so even if you had an issue, your covered here in terms of ROMS..
but yeah you are gonna have to pull the trigger and do a manual reinstall. best and safest route to go. you could have some bad registry entries or any number of other rogue things under the hood so do a hard rest and manual install... your device will love you for it!
I finally beat this mess by using a month old backup which I must have done before this problem started. It wasn't much work to resync and redo a few changes. I'll probably go to my grave never knowing what setting, registry entry, rom byte or whatever was either changed or clobbered. To have redone this from scratch would have been a super major project. I have to hand it to Sprite backup, it saved my hide.
